Leidos Mission Assurance is seeking a talented & skilled, early career Quality Assurance Inspector to join our Space Systems team in Decatur, AL and be trained in Non-Destructive Evaluation (NDE) techniques. This exciting opportunity will play a critical role in ensuring mechanical and electrical manufacturing and assembly integration and testing of human spaceflight hardware meets all requirements. Primary responsibilities will be with the Universal Stage Adapter (USA) which is a structural element of NASA’s Space Launch System along with other aerospace and defense programs.

Primary Responsibilities

The Quality Inspector will support the Dynetics Space Systems Division with development of space products and systems with primary responsibility for the assembly, integration, and testing of the Universal Stage Adapter. Successful candidate will be willing to train to become a certified Level 2 inspector in Ultrasonic Testing with opportunities to learn other methods in the future. Responsibilities include performing quality inspections to verify that composite structural panels, mechanical assemblies, electrical cables, and integrated hardware and testing activities meet specified drawing/specification requirements. This position will support shift operations at our assembly facility in Decatur, AL. Examples of hardware are large composite structural panels, cable harnesses, mechanical components, and pyrotechnic separation devices, etc. Other duties may include performing receiving inspection, logging shelf-life material, performing first article inspections, and measuring parts using standard measuring equipment. Applicant must be able to work in fast-paced development and production environments with minimal supervision.

Basic Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent and 2-4 years of prior relevant experience

  • 2-4 years of relevant experience performing quality inspections or assembly, integration, or testing of high-performance systems (e.g. aircraft, launch vehicles, spacecraft, or submarines

  • Must be able to work day (1st) shift primarily, but occasional support for overtime, 2nd, or weekend shifts may be required.

  • Must be proficient with standard inspection and measurement equipment, i.e. micrometers, calipers, multimeters, magnification, black light inspections

  • Must be able to execute or witness test procedures and generate test/inspection reports.

  • Must be able to read and interpret drawings, assembly schematics, design models, and specifications and prepare hand-written or computer-generated inspection reports.

  • Experience with Microsoft Windows & Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, Outlook etc.)

  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 25 lbs.Must be comfortable with working at tall heights

  • Position requires candidate to be capable of performing in a collective environment working closely with multi-disciplinary teams & sub-tier partners

  • Must be able to pass an eye exam for visual inspection.Candidate must be a resident of, or willing to relocate to, the Decatur, AL area.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certified Quality Inspector preferred

  • Prior Ultrasonic Testing Training, Documented Experience, or Certification is a plus

  • Ability to complete First Article Inspections (FAI) I.A.W. AS9102

  • Knowledge and/or experience working with critical aerospace flight hardware

  • Knowledge and/or experience working within an AS9100 environment

The ability to obtain and maintain a US Secret Security Clearance

Pay Range:

Pay Range $44,850.00 - $81,075.00
