In this position...

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated SQL Server DBA with a strong background in Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) and containerization technologies. The ideal candidate will be responsible for managing and optimizing our SQL Server , ensuring high availability, performance, and security for the databases hosted in Ford Enterprise Data Center and various manufacturing plants. Additionally, the candidate will play a key role in our modernization efforts by integrating SRE practices and containerization technologies into our infrastructure.

The work will be performed in the Dearborn area as a member of a team of SQL Server DBAs. There will be occasional off-shift work to provide On-Call coverage (in a rotation) for production-support incidents and to support scheduled changes to applications after hours. Our DBA team presently supports SQL Server 2008 through 2019 Standard and Enterprise Editions, including features associated with each version. This team is moving data and databases over to the Google Cloud Platform(GCP) and other open databases. We are looking for a resource who is familiar with Microsoft SQL Server as well as GCP & open-source databases.

What you'll do...

SQL Server production Database Administrator experience across the following areas Patching, Replication, Availability Groups, CDC, Index Optimization, DB maintenance, SQL code tunning, installations, configurations, and upgrades.

Manage, monitor, maintain, and optimize SQL databases to ensure high availability, security, and performance.

Monitor database performance, troubleshoot, and resolve performance issues, and optimize queries for improved efficiency.

Implement and maintain backup and recovery strategies. Conduct regular backups, disaster recovery planning, and testing to ensure data protection and business continuity.

Enforcing IT policy and security requirement, ensure database security and compliance with industry standards.

Perform database migrations, upgrades and failover/recoveries

Supporting SQL Server mirrored databases and Always-On clustered environments.

Work closely with development, operations, and product teams to understand and meet their database needs.

Work with internal infrastructure support teams (O/S admins, web server admins, network admins, etc.)

Work with change control and ticketing systems to coordinate changes with other infrastructure teams

Provide input to planning activities to estimate effort to complete sprint planning and execution tasks/activities.

Working knowledge of creating and maintaining and troubleshooting SSIS packages.

Document database configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting steps for knowledge sharing and reference.

Provide technical guidance and mentorship to team members.

Ability to tackle problems across cloud services and on-premise database technologies

Participate in On-Call rotations and respond to database-related incidents and emergencies.

Implement and maintain SRE practices to enhance system reliability and performance.

Develop and manage SLAs, SLOs, and error budgets for database services.

Automate repetitive tasks and processes to improve efficiency and reduce manual intervention.

Monitor system health and performance using industry-standard tools and techniques.

Collaborate with development and operations teams to improve system architecture and design.

Design, implement, and manage containerized database environments using Docker, Kubernetes, or similar technologies.

Having knowledge on GCP cloud platform and CloudSQL database services.

Develop and maintain CI/CD pipelines for database deployments.

Develop GCP Terraform modules, Chef habitat packages development using PowerShell.

Ensure seamless integration of containerized databases with existing infrastructure and applications.

Monitor and manage containerized environments for performance, scalability, and security.

You'll have...

Bachelor's Computer Science, Information Systems or related field

10+ years of recent SQL Server DBA experience

10+ years of experience in database technologies, performance optimization for large OLTP applications

3+ years of experience with Cloud database services in GCP/AWS

Deep technical skills in the use of the components of SQL Server and demonstrate the ability to troubleshoot SQL Server issues.

Strong PowerShell scripting knowledge and experience with Git/Github.

Strong ability to work with and provide technical leadership to other team members.

Solid team player with strong communication and writing skills.

Strong written and oral communications skills

Even better, you may have...

Master's Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or related field

Experience with Microsoft System Center Operations Manager (SCOM)

Professional experience with Catalogic, TDP, Veeam and Cohesity.

Write/test/maintain T-SQL and stored procedures as they relate to DBA support

Test, write, and maintain SSIS packages

Windows administration experience with 64 bit environments

Experience with SSRS, SSAS and Power Shell

Writing, testing and maintaining Windows scripts.

Experience with SQL Server 2019 features

Automation and innovation approach

Knowledge in Rally, Agile environment

GCP Professional Cloud Architect or equivalent

Experience in supporting open-source databases (PostgreSQL preferred).

Experience in supporting non-relational (NoSQL) database technologies (MongoDB and Cosmos DB preferred)

Experience in supporting MongoDB in on-prem and GCP environment.

The applicant must be able to work well with all types of customers.

Ability to articulate the value proposition of solution/services to senior teams from client/prospect

Google Cloud Platform Professional Cloud Architect or equivalent experience
