In this position…

The HV Battery Electronics Controls – Technical Specialist (TS) will be responsible for leading BECM (Battery Energy Control Module) and BPSM (Battery Pack Sensing Module) controller technology, development, deliverable sign-off, and HW releases to battery unit/application and battery assembly manufacturing plants, needing strong collaboration with Battery Controls D&R and HW supervisors, SW supervisors, and Hardware-in-loop supervisor.

What you'll do…

This TS will develop Battery Controller requirements, manage BECM/BPSM suppliers with HW supervisor and providing technical assistance to suppliers. The TS also signs off hardware work products such as requirements, test methods & test data, DFMEA, Worst-case-circuit-analysis (WCCA) and so on. The TS will provide support and coaching to Ford internal HW and D&R engineers as well. Finally, the TS will ensure all lessons learned are accurately documented and communicated to related work groups / teams.

You'll have...

  • B.S. in Electrical Engineering required

  • Proven knowledge in BMS (battery management system) and BMIC (battery management IC) for 5+ years

  • Develop & Cascade HV Battery Electronic Controller requirements to suppliers and interfacing subsystems; sign off on supplier circuit design implementations.

  • Subject-matter-expert for HV/LV isolation design practices including sensing techniques, board layout, failure modes, and championing development of best practices, supporting needs of other power electronics team.

  • Ensure current & future controller electronic architectures are consistent with software design architecture; work closely with Hardware & Software supervisors to ensure robust, compatible design.

  • Lead characterization and analysis of battery monitoring ICs, confirming application fit and impact on current and future design strategies; develop requirements for future BMIC technologies.

  • Develop proposals and positions on new battery control electronics approaches and partitioning, supporting advanced development efforts of HV Battery Technology Manager

  • Complete Critical Core Quality Documents such as FMEA, Boundary / P-Diagram, DVMs, DVPs

  • Develop training material and grow the electronics knowledge base of the engineering team.

  • Support resolution of HV battery electronic controller issues.

  • Develop, review, and sign-off on requirements, design rules, and test methods/results.

This position requires control module development & delivery experience with suppliers, and launch experience. The successful candidate will have demonstrated experience in delivery of complex systems, with the ability to handle multiple suppliers. In addition, the successful candidate will need:

Proven track record of developing, validating, and delivering automotive ECUs with schematic / layout / WCCA reviews as well as DV/PV and EMC validation for 10+ years

Strong experience with Tier 1 BMS suppliers and electronics manufacturing and testing (DV & EOL)

Full understanding of key BMS components and their limitations, such as photomos isolators, battery monitoring ICs, reference supplies, A/D converters, microprocessors

MS in Electrical Engineering strongly preferred

Great teammate with able to work well across functions.

Strong oral and written communications skills, with ability to present to higher levels of management.

Self-Starter capable of establishing processes and delivering results.
