Position Description:

A Road Loads Engineer is responsible for delivering vehicle measurements, design loads and some analytical simulations and to support vehicle design, vehicle verification and durability incident root cause analysis. The position is within the Durability, Road Loads, and CusCor Department, which is part of the Vehicle Engineering organization.

What you'll do...

Opportunity to work with highly motivated and experienced engineers on the Road Loads team and to develop cross-functional network working with almost all functions and attributes

Provide timely & quality measured and analytical road loads in order to facilitate Ford’s product development process for durability design and verification of components, systems and vehicles

Understand customers’ requirements and inquiries, and provide clear and concise responses

Set robust design road loads targets for Chassis, Body, P/T mounts, EPE and other functions

Attend cross function attribute meetings and ensure vehicle design changes do not violate targets

Develop recommendations to resolve and prevent full vehicle durability issues

Perform comprehensive road loads comparisons/assessments via signal processing reduction, and document comparison results, conclusions and recommendations

Seats & IP Measurement Lead

Plan and deliver all aspects of seats and IP data collection for all programs in support of bldg4 sign-off tests

Lead DV efficiency efforts to improve efficiency of seats and IP data collection/calculation

Road Load Measurements

Deliver vehicle measurements: instrumentation, data collection, data processing and communication of results

Translate customer requests into measurement requirements: instrumentation, test procedures

Define/Design custom loadcells and transducers including strain gage requirements and calibration techniques

Provide operation instructions to technicians covering instrumentation, data acquisition and test procedures

Lead the development/application of CAN diagnostic tools to troubleshoot measurement/durability issues

Deliver DV efficiency by helping improve/refine measured strategies/methods

Act as the measured road loads team primary interface with chassis and powertrain control teams

Road Load Simulations

Perform ADAMS-based vehicle component/sub-system/system road load simulations using modeling and simulation strategies of varying complexities in order to accommodate road loads deliverables at different vehicle milestones:

Perform strength and endurance load simulations to support vehicle design

Perform time series road load simulations to support vehicle design

Perform Road Load simulations to support powertrain design

Coordinate component testing, and process data to create component models for use in Adams

You'll have...

Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering or related field

5+ years RLDA experience

5+ years with SIEMENS Test Lab and SCADAS hardware experience

5+ years in Electronic Controls, ECU, PCM, Suspension Control, CAN bus, or Control Systems experience

5+ years with CAN & CAN-FD including defining custom gateways for data acquisition and identifying messages/signals critical to vehicle durability performance experience

Even better, you may have...

Master of Science degree in Electrical Engineering or related field

7+ years RLDA experience

7+ years with SIEMENS Test Lab and SCADAS hardware experience

7+ years in Electronic Controls, ECU, PCM, Suspension Control, CAN bus, or Control Systems experience

7+ years with CAN & CAN-FD including defining custom gateways for data acquisition and identifying messages/signals critical to vehicle durability performance experience

10+ years engineering experience

Experience in full vehicle and sub-system (Chassis & P/T) modeling and simulation

Experience with Signal Processing (statistics, filtering, spectral analysis, level counts, etc.)

Ability to use the following software: MSC ADAMS (A-Car, A-Chassis), MATLAB, nCode

Practical application of various sensors including accelerometers, LVDT, RVDT, String potentiometers etc.

Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to present/work in group settings

Fundamental knowledge of: Multi-body dynamics, Fatigue/Durability Theory and Modal Analysis

Excellent written and oral communication skills
