The Henry Ford Collections Study Intern in Dearborn, Michigan

The Diversity and Inclusion Internship Program at The Henry Ford is a cohort-based program that offers professional development, mentorship, and networking opportunities. We invite diverse candidates* who are curious about careers in the museum world to become a part of our legacy and take it forward. For Winter 2025, internships will last 15 weeks, projected to begin on January 21st and conclude on May 2nd.

The Collections Space Study Intern can expect to on-site The Henry Ford's campus in Dearborn, MI. There will be the occasional hybrid opportunity to work remotely.

How will we work together?

The Collections Space Study Intern will collaborate with Archive and Library team in reviewing the current use, capacity, strategy of the storage usage at the Benson Ford Research Center's Library, and begin basic implementation of agreed upon solutions. You will collaborate with the Archive and Library team, reporting directly to the staff Librarian.

Your primary responsibilities will include:

  • Strategizing and completing a capacity study of the Library's portion of collection storage.

  • Making recommendations for improvements to current practices.

  • Putting findings in action by shifting and reorganizing parts of collection storage to maximize capacity moving forward.

  • Working collaboratively with team members throughout the institution.

  • Being willing and able to attend virtual meetings in EST time zone (GMT -4:00) and to respond to emails and messages in a timely manner.

The Collections Space Study Intern should have a passion for design, innovation, storytelling, and branding.

Competitive candidates will be:

  • Comfortable working in a collaborative virtual team environment

  • Willing to learn and take on challenging projects

  • Interested in Archives and Libraries as a profession

  • Curious

  • Authentic

  • Able to give and receive constructive feedback

  • Familiarity with Office 365 and MS Excel

  • Prepared to submit a portfolio of completed design projects and other multimedia-related works of art

Here are a few extras that could enhance your candidacy, but are not required:

  • Coursework in an Information Science program

  • Experience with CMS such as Emu or Alma
