Job Summary

The Department of Natural Sciences in the College of Arts, Sciences, and Letters (CASL) invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position for a Biologist specializing in genomics, metagenomics, or transcriptomics. The Department is seeking applications from candidates who possess experience in both collecting large scale omics or sequence data and using computational biology approaches for data analysis with emphasis on research areas directly impacting human health and disease. Examples of candidates that would be considered for this position include, but are not limited to scholars with expertise in direct computational analysis of large-scale DNA/RNA sequence or other omics data and also employ bench skills with molecular, cellular, and/or microbiology proficiency in the laboratory. We will consider candidates applying their expertise to a broad range of research questions directly relevant to human health. The expected starting date is September 2025.

The Department of Natural Sciences and the Biology Discipline have research active faculty with a broad range of research interests across all areas, including but not limited to molecular and cellular biology, microbiology, neurobiology, organismal biology, ecology, genetics, evolutionary biology, physiology, or immunology. Research expectations for this position include a research program with potential for external funding and to open new avenues to collaborative efforts within the Department. The Department of Natural Sciences and CASL follow the teacher-scholar model and highly values research with undergraduate and graduate students. Laboratory facilities and competitive start-up funds will be provided. The teaching load (2:2) includes responsibilities to teach in the areas of genetics, bioinformatics, introductory cellular and molecular biology, and opportunities for developing new courses in the applicant's area of expertise.

Required Qualifications*

Qualified candidates are required to possess either a Ph.D. in biological sciences or related field or an M.D., and have a track record of peer-reviewed publications. Postdoctoral experience is desired. Candidates will be expected to teach, seek external funding, and provide service to the discipline and department.
