Responsibilities

Job Title: Program Instructor, Automation Engineering Technology

Shift: Monday – Friday with Possibility of Weekends

Department: Operational Excellence

Reporting to: Director of Continuous Improvement

Job Location: DeSoto, KS (On-Site)

We are seeking dedicated individuals to join us as full-time, on-site team members at our new, state-of-the-art factory located in the thriving city of DeSoto, Kansas.

Essential Duties:

  • Provide formal instruction and leadership in Automation Engineer Technology while creating the curriculum, models, and materials.

  • Design and develop comprehensive and engaging curriculum materials, incorporating the latest educational methodologies and industry best practices.

  • Collaborate with subject matter experts to identify learning objectives, create instructional content, and implement effective assessments to measure learning outcomes.

  • Operate and maintain necessary equipment and/or training modules required to support the specific course(s) being taught within departmental budget constraints.

  • Ensure the program equipment stays in trend with industry standards.

  • Prepare course lesson plans utilizing the approved program syllabi.

  • Select textbooks and educational resources to support program learning.

  • Maintain an industry-based advisory board in support of college-level Automation Engineer Technology programs.

  • Manage the apprenticeship documentation following processes and procedures.

  • Assist in student job placement and follow-up.

  • Complete all assessment activities and documentation according to the Office of Assessment’s guidelines.

  • Complete program review documentation per the Program Review Committee guidelines.

  • Maintain student records in accordance with college policies and state and federal laws.

  • Ensure students are following appropriate safety practices.

  • Participate in professional development to continually improve personal skills in career field.

  • Serve on institutional committees as needed.

  • Work professionally and collaboratively with industry partners.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) Requirements:

  • To ensure the health and safety in the workplace and for the protection of our employees,’ wearing PPE is a possibility and includes equipment such as a full Tyvek suit, safety shoes, gloves, safety glasses, face mask, and a full hazmat suit that includes a respirator.

Qualifications: Requirements - Required and/or Preferred

Education :

  • Basic/Required: High School Degree AND/OR College Certificate AND/OR Military Certificate(s) in Industrial Machine Maintenance, Automation Engineer Technology, Advanced Manufacturing, OR a closely related trade.

Essential Qualifications:

  • Five (5) years of work experience in industrial technology, advanced manufacturing, automation engineering or a closely related area with an emphasis on several trade areas listed above.

  • Experience AND/OR Certificates in areas such as: Industrial Machine Maintenance, Advanced/Automated Manufacturing, Robotics, PLCs, Actuator and Sensor Systems, AC/DC Circuits, Industrial Fluid Power, Electrical Motor Controls, AUTO CAD, Lean Manufacturing Principles, Total Productive Maintenance (TPM), Industrial Systems Integration.

  • Experience with troubleshooting mechanical, electrical, and/or automated equipment for various processes.

  • Teaching/training experience

  • Ability to train and work with diverse students and learners.

  • Strong computer and technology skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Associate degree or higher in Automation Engineer Technology, Industrial Maintenance, Advanced Manufacturing, or a closely related field.

  • Experience and/or skills in areas such as:

a. Automation such as PLC, robotics, and VFD programming and troubleshooting.

b. Pneumatics and hydraulics schematic design and troubleshooting.

  • c. Mechanical skills such as fabrication, power tools, machinist applications and welding

  • Computer skills such as CAD blueprint reading and creation, CMMS, and automation software.

  • Six (6) years’ experience or more in Automation Engineer, Industrial Maintenance, Advanced Manufacturing, or closely related field(s).

  • Teaching experience in an open enrollment, urban community college.

  • Experience with a Learning Management System such as Blackboard.

  • Experience in learner-centered pedagogy.
