Job Description

BAE Systems is seeking an experienced Chief Systems Engineer to join our Integrated Defense Solutions team in an exciting program supporting the U.S. Navy s next generation of strategic deterrence. Serving as one of our Chief Engineers, you will influence a multi-disciplinary team of engineers in developing and implementing a well-planned systems engineering approach to requirements definition, architecture and interface definition, system integration, verification, test, and product support for current and future large-scale missile systems. BAE Systems enables the government s role as the Systems Integrator of a complex system of systems program. The SSP Systems Engineering and Integration team consists of Navy SSP program offices, defense industry contractors, Navy Surface Warfare Center organizations, University Affiliated Research Centers, and DoE labs. The nation is investing in a new strategic weapon system that will be designed for, and integrated on, the US Columbia and UK Dreadnought Class submarines currently under construction. As a BAE Systems Chief Systems Engineer, you will oversee and govern the technical performance of end-to-end systems engineering, integration, verification, test, and product support functions in support of advanced programs under the direction, and in-collaboration with, BAE Systems Program Management leadership and our SSP customer. In this role, you will provide engineering and scientific leadership and oversight in the performance of design review planning, preparation, readiness and risk assessments. You will also provide leadership and oversight of technical analyses, trade studies, research, and evaluation to lead system definition and realization activities, resolve issues, conduct failure reviews, and make recommendations regarding enhanced capabilities. Under your technical leadership, a large team of engineers and scientist (100 ) will utilize digital engineering and model-based systems engineering to perform operational concept development, feasibility studies, design, development and evaluation of hardware and software for new designs, modifications, and upgrades of Naval weapon systems and system of systems.

The primary objective for this role is to provide sound engineering principles and disciplined guidance to ensure successful execution of technical plans and goals while communicating effectively with internal and external management and senior-level customer representatives concerning operational and design decisions, technical risk identification and mitigation, definition and achievement of requirements, and overall end-to-end systems engineering process definition and oversight that results in successful definition and realization of large-scale systems.

Required Education, Experience, & Skills

Minimum education and related/relevant years of work experience required: Bachelor of Science in Engineering and minimum of 12 years of related, proven experience successfully leading system engineering activities across large-scale weapon systems; or a Master of Science in Engineering and minimum of 10 years of related experience.

Additional skills/experience required:

  • Demonstrated ability to successfully lead and influence multi-disciplinary teams in complex systems engineering across the product development lifecycle.

  • Demonstrated successful leadership, time management and conflict resolution skills with geographically diverse team members

  • Demonstrated understanding of systems engineering program level planning documentation and change management

  • Demonstrated understanding of IEEE and DoD design review maturity criteria, preparation and evaluation of design artifacts, and execution and chairing program design reviews

  • Experience conducting science and technology research, analysis, trade studies, system definition (requirements, architecture, and interfaces), integration, and test of complex systems.

  • Utilization of risk and opportunity management processes throughout the design lifecycle

  • Skills in analysis, critical thinking, and technical problem solving.

  • Exceptional verbal, written and presentation skills.

  • Ability to travel domestically to support team interactions

Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills

  • Demonstrated leadership capability to operate strategically and drive change through influence

  • Understanding and ability to lead failure investigations and chair failure review boards

  • Desired experience in digital engineering and model-based systems engineering principles and tools

  • INCOSE CSEP, ESEP, or equivalent certification

  • Experience with strategic deterrence and/or missile defense systems and missions

Pay Information

Full-Time Salary Range: $147300 - $250400

However, individual salaries are determined by a variety of factors including, but not limited to: business considerations, local market conditions, and internal equity, as well as candidate qualifications, such as skills, education, and experience.
