Woolpert is hiring a Senior Fire Protection Engineer/Designer to join our dynamic fire protection life safety team. This position reports to the engineering team's leader and is responsible for performing complex and unique engineering functions specific to the fire protection discipline, including fire suppression design, hydraulic analysis, fire alarm/mass notification design, review of fire-resistance rated construction, industrial fire protection systems, and code/life safety consulting. The ideal candidate will provide project and design leadership, mentor staff, and foster collaboration to develop premium solutions that delight our clients. Responsibilities Essential Functions As a Senior Fire Protection Engineer/Designer at Woolpert, you will: Direct a specific technical program and provides technical direction for multiple projects of considerable scope and complexity. Coordinate the technical execution of large segments of an engineering program with extensive and diversified engineering requirements. Interpret, define, organize, execute, and coordinate engineering assignments. Apply or develop advanced theories, concepts, principles, and processes in execution of quality deliverables that meet project/deliverable specifications. Provide technical expertise, leadership, and mentoring in project planning and design phases. Develop and follow standard practices Coach and mentor other team members in skill development areas. Provide project management of project level staffing, scope, schedule, and budgets. Communicate new scientific methods and developments in the industry through appropriate firm channels. Qualifications BA/BS or MA/MS in related field and fifteen (15) years related experience. Registered Professional Engineer (PE) by way of the NCEES Fire Protection Discipline exam, preferred. Experience with NFPA, ICC, UFC, and other industry, state, and government standard building, fire, and life safety codes and regulations. Experience with fire alarm, mass notification, fire suppression, fire pump, hydraulic calculation, special suppression, smoke control/exhaust, and fire-resistance rated construction. Experience with smoke control rational analysis, CONTAM or CFD modeling, or other modeling software. Above average skills designing directly in Revit or directing Revit designers for preparing construction documents. Significant experience in coordination of design documents between disciplines. Able to read, analyze, and interpret complex documents including scientific and technical journals, handbooks, and industry information. Familiar with discipline related software applications. Able to develop computer applications or other analysis techniques appropriate to discipline. Expert knowledge of Microsoft Office suite. Expert verbal and written communication skills for both internal and external relationships. Able to respond effectively to sensitive inquiries from clients, regulatory agencies, and members of the business community. Able to write technical opinions, articles, and thought leadership social media using original or innovative techniques or style. Above average presentation skills. Mentally and physically capable of performing all essential duties required of the position. Willing to travel to project sites or offices, as needed.
