Actalent Construction Field Technician in Dayton, Ohio

Job Description

We are seeking a Construction Materials Engineering Technician to join our Field Services Group. The Engineering Technician will be responsible for testing and inspecting building materials including concrete, masonry, asphalt, soil, and structural steel to ensure they meet engineering specifications and building codes. These tasks will be performed on-site at various construction sites, including commercial, warehouse, and school projects. We welcome candidates with relevant experience and/or certifications related to construction materials testing, as well as those with experience in masonry, concrete, or construction who are eager to learn.

Responsibilities

  • Perform testing and inspection of construction materials including concrete, soils, masonry, asphalt, and steel.

  • Accurately record testing data as the work is being performed.

  • Report test results and time sheets to the Project Manager in a timely fashion.

  • Review project drawings and specifications.

  • Transport up to 50lb. of material across job site.

  • Training will be provided.

Essential Skills

  • Construction Materials Testing experience and/or certifications preferred but not required (i.e. ACI, Nuclear Gauge, NICET, NETTCP, etc.).

  • Construction experience strongly preferred (i.e. concrete, masonry, general labor, etc.).

  • At a minimum, must have outdoor manual labor experience.

  • Must be a hard worker who is able to adapt to changing conditions.

  • High School diploma required.

  • Ability to travel locally and drive own vehicle when necessary - will be reimbursed for mileage.

  • Ability to work a variable schedule - varies based on workload, weather, project status, time of year, etc.

  • Ability to work long hours in various weather conditions.

  • Valid driver's license.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Willingness to pursue relevant certifications with company support.

  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in recording data.

  • Good communication skills for reporting to Project Manager.

Work Environment

Most work is local to Dayton/Cincinnati, with no overnight travel required. The role involves working outdoors in various weather conditions and being on your feet for most of the day. The workload and daily/weekly schedule will vary based on project status, weather, and time of year. The company provides consistent work year-round, with bi-annual bonuses and opportunities for professional development. Technicians may use company vehicles or be reimbursed for mileage if using their own vehicle. There is potential for career advancement into the Engineering group for those with an engineering degree.

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $23.00/hr.
