As a CFD Research Engineer, you will be working with researchers, program managers, the VP, Advanced Aerospace Systems Division, and Parallax clients. When working with your team, you will conduct computational fluid dynamics (CFD) analyses, trade studies, performance evaluations, conceptual designs and test data assessments (e.g., wind tunnel experiments or test flight data) regarding DoD high-speed and hypersonic aerospace systems. The Researcher will employ commercially available CFD software as well as in-house developed advanced CFD research tools.   

 

In addition to that, a typical day-in-the-life of a Parallax CFD Research Engineer includes:

  • Performing applied computational analyses using commercial and in-house CFD software to simulate the aerodynamic and aerothermal environments for flight vehicles and wind tunnel facilities.
  • Developing digital twin models for high Mach and hypersonic flight vehicles and wind tunnel facilities.
  • Generating complex numerical grids to handle large-scale problems involving detailed models of aerospace systems.
  • Comparing predictions to flight test data and literature.
  • Documenting results in technical reports and published papers, presenting findings, and delivering expert opinions in technical interchange meetings.
  • Interacting with project managers, sponsors, contractors, and other Air Force staff in order to establish and maintain relationships and to provide critical contributions.
