Description
Position Summary:
The Teacher is responsible for designing, planning, and safely implementing instructive and engaging activities to achieve educational objectives. Job Functions include those listed below.
Essential Job Functions:
Develops lesson plans by utilizing curriculum maps, research, gathering materials, etc.;
Implements lesson plans and activities with youth to stimulate their curiosity, keep them motivated, and further their interest in learning;
Ensures that class attendance is taken on a daily basis, filling out and delivering forms to proper locations as required;
Participates in the programs evaluation process, contributing feedback for student portfolios, Miracle Maker Education Plans, surveys, etc.;
Ensures a safe, positive, enjoyable, and productive learning environment for all youth and teachers;
Works to problem-solve issues by providing skillful classroom/small group management practices (Positive School Climate, Responsive Classroom, Restorative Justice, etc.;
Quickly and accurately reports any situation that involves youth safety such as accidents, unsafe situations at the playground or at field trips, suspicion of child abuse or neglect, food conditions, etc.;
Attends regular staff meetings as required;
Embraces and embodies the mission, vision, guiding principles, clinical vision and goals of WestCare Foundation;
Performs any other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Certifications/Licensures:
Relevant certification and/or licensure ispreferred;preference will be given to certified candidates;
Valid drivers license and the ability to obtain and maintain WestCares vehicle insurance is required.
Education:
Graduation from an accredited two-year or four-year college with a degree in Education, Literature, or other field related to the position is required;
High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
Experience and Competencies:
At least two (2) years experience working with or teaching children in a classroom capacity required;
Knowledge of education, childhood development, evaluation and curriculum required;
Ability to establish priorities, work independently, and proceed with objectives required;
Ability to work with a wide range of people and backgrounds required;
Ability to handle and resolve recurring problems required;
Relates extremely well with people, particularly youth required;
Ability to develop meaningful goals and objectives required;
Skill in group processes including goal setting, planning, and conflict mediation required;
High level of personal accountability for the quality and impact of work required;
Experience in youth development model, asset-based relationship building, and experience in motivating youth required;
Demonstrated ability to exercise sound judgement required;
Excellent verbal and written communication skills required;
Ability to form and maintain effective, professional, and positive relationships with others required;
Must be empathetic, compassionate, non-judgmental, and enthusiastic;
Ability to work well, both individually and as part of a team required;
Adherence to the highest standards of ethical conduct required;

Working Conditions:
Work is primarily performed in a classroom, office, or indoor setting;
Occasional outdoor work and travel between multiple locationsmaybe required;
Regular and prompt attendance is required throughout employment.
