Summary This position provides direct supervision in the Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Unit, Maintenance and Repair Section of Engineering Service at the Dayton VA Medical Center (VAMC), Dayton, Ohio. The Dayton VAMC is comprised of approximately 224 acres, 70 existing primary buildings (approximately 1,600,000 sq. ft.) and has four geographically separated Community Based Outpatient Centers in Richmond, Indiana as well as Lima, Middletown and Springfield, Ohio. Responsibilities Duties include but are not limited to: Provides direct supervision in the Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Unit. Determines priorities of work to ensure that all projects are accomplished as scheduled. Selects and assigns personnel to accomplish tasks based on knowledge and skills. Exhibits attention to detail and accuracy in using computers to input data required for reports. Provides technical direction and/ or help in accomplishing difficult work steps and processes. Inspects completed work for quality and work order requirements. Investigate work related problems such as excessive costs or low productivity and determines causes. Implements corrective actions within authority to resolve work problems. Establishes performance standards. Initiates performance ratings and conducts counseling, if necessary. Establishes and coordinates overall leave schedule for the unit. Recommends and conducts training for subordinates. Knowledge of safety codes associated with equipment for which incumbent is responsible. EXPERIENCE: A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position. Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Federal Wage System Qualification Standards. SCREEN-OUT ELEMENT: Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element, which usually appears as question 1 in the on-line questionnaire. Those applicants who appear to possess at least the minimal acceptable qualification requirement are considered for further rating; those who do not are rated ineligible and are eliminated. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities.
