OakHaven Montessori School Assistant Teacher in Dardenne Praire, Missouri

Full-time opening (40 hrs./week). OakHaven Montessori School (Dardenne Prairie, MO), an established and growing Montessori school, is now accepting applications for a warm and responsible individual to assist in one of our primary classrooms (children ages 2.5 - 6). The primary classroom assistant gets the opportunity to work with an AMI (Association Montessori Internationale) certified teacher and school staff in creating and maintaining an environment that is optimal for the development of young children. The classroom assistant is a critical part of our school so its important that the person we choose will be a fit to our school mission and shared values. ABOUT OUR SCHOOL

OakHaven Montessori School is a relatively small school with a strong and enthusiastic community. We are fully accredited by the Association Montessori Internationale and provide an authentic Montessori education for children ages 2.5 through 12. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Build positive, trust-based relationships with the children, the parents, and the OakHaven staff.
  • Assist the classroom teacher in creating and maintaining a beautiful and authentic Montessori environment.
  • Supervise, support and guide the children in the classroom, during lunch, on the playground, in the nap room and during before and after school care.
  • Serve as a leader and role model for the children at all times.
  • Help maintain and keep the school and classroom materials beautiful.

PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES AND SKILLS NEEDED TO BE SUCCESSFUL:

  • Loves to be around young children and knows how to interact respectfully with them.
  • Responsible, dependable, punctual and capable of caring for young children.
  • Positive attitude, pleasant nature and lots of patience.
  • Ready and willing to pitch in and do anything that needs to be done.
  • Able to work well in a partnership with the lead teacher.
  • Organized, detail oriented, and prepared, yet able to be flexible in the moment and respond to the needs of the children.
  • Works well in a professional environment and presents oneself professionally.
  • Is able to communicate clearly and effectively with children, parents and other staff members.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • 2-3 years experience working with children.
  • Bachelor's degree preferred, but not required - depending on experience.
  • Clear background check.
  • Verifiable references.

SCHEDULE:

  • 8:00-4:00 most school days (more details provided upon request)
  • Occasional evening hours are required for events and meetings
