In this role, you will be an integral part of a small, dynamic team focused on pioneering the next generation of Abiomed Optical sensors and console hardware. Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide design and technical support for electrical and embedded systems in pump and system design initiatives.

  • Understand complex requirements and features, and develop electrical system designs through prototyping, component specification, final assembly specification, and process development.

  • Fabricate prototypes with assistance from the technical support team (Machine Shop, Technicians, and Designers) and suppliers.

  • Evaluate prototypes, execute testing, analyze and report results, and iterate based on the findings.

  • Construct electrical schematics and PCB layouts, ensuring compliance with design standards and specifications.

  • Collaborate with internal and external manufacturing partners to ensure producible designs (DFM).

  • Address technical and programmatic risks, ensuring effective risk identification, assessment, and mitigation.

  • Prepare design reviews and present to peers and review team to ensure the technical integrity of the product design.

  • Effectively collaborate with a cross-functional team to address product development challenges and communicate activity status, issues, and mitigation plans with key stakeholders.

  • Collaborate to ensure compliance with design controls, company quality policy, and applicable regulatory requirements.

Qualifications

  • BS in Electrical Engineering or a directly related scientific discipline.

  • 1-3 years of product development experience with a focus on electrical engineering and embedded systems.

  • Demonstrated history in generating novel designs, prototypes, and developing specifications.

  • Experience throughout development, including understanding design controls, requirement definition, and design characterization.

  • Strong problem-solving skills and experience with root cause investigations.

  • Proficiency in electrical CAD tools (e.g., Altium, Eagle).

  • Experience with microcontrollers, embedded systems, and firmware development.

  • Familiarity with signal processing and sensor integration.

  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.

  • Proficient in English in both verbal and written communication.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • MS in Electrical Engineering or a directly related scientific discipline.

  • Medical Device product development experience.

  • Knowledge of medical device clinical use, design controls, and regulatory standards.

  • Experience with low-power design and battery management systems.

  • Familiarity with RF design and wireless communication protocols.
