Job Summary

The Director of Dining Services is responsible for conducting marketing audits, managing food costs, inventory, and labor parameters, and ensuring quality control standards. They assist in identifying low participating schools and develop strategies to amplify programs at those locations, while implementing operational efficiencies and providing support with paperwork. They play a crucial role in the development and presentation of training, collaboration with stakeholders, and serve as a brand representative to promote child nutrition initiatives.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct marketing audits to assess the effectiveness of the child nutrition department’s promotional activities and identify areas for improvement.

  • Manage food costs, inventory, and labor parameters to ensure optimal utilization of resources and maintain budgetary targets.

  • Maintain quality control standards by monitoring food preparation, storage, and service processes to ensure compliance with health and safety regulations.

  • Collaborate with the team to identify low participating schools and develop strategies to increase participation rates at those locations.

  • Implement initiatives to improve operational efficiencies, such as streamlining processes, optimizing workflow and reducing waste.

  • Support district supervisors in completing month-end closeout paperwork, including financial reports and reconciliations.

  • Identify training needs related to program operations and standards and assist in the development and delivery of relevant training sessions.

  • Collaborate with stakeholders to develop innovative programs and initiatives that promote healthy eating habits among children.

  • Stay updated on industry trends, regulations, and best practices related to child nutrition and incorporate them into departmental operations.

  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of nutrition programs and initiatives and provide recommendations for continuous improvement.

  • Serve as a brand representative at events, conferences, and meetings, promoting the child nutrition department’s initiatives and building positive relationships with key stakeholders.

  • Collaborate with marketing and communications to develop marketing materials, campaigns, and social media content to promote child nutrition programs.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree is preferred in a Food Service, Nutrition, Hospitality or a Business discipline

  • Associates Degree in a Food Service, Nutrition, Hospitality or a Business discipline is required

  • Three to five years of food service management experience required

  • School dining experience preferred

  • Strong leadership and communication skills

  • Financial and business acumen

  • Excellent communication skills
