Deloitte Tax Manager, Internal Indirect Tax in Dallas, Texas

Deloitte Services LP includes internal support areas such as Finance and Administration, Talent, Information Technology, Marketing and Communications, and Facilities Management. This Tax Accountant role is part of our internal US Firms Tax ("USFT") team which is a subset of our Finance and Administration group. The USFT team is responsible for setting the tax policy for the Deloitte US Firms in the US and other countries where it has operations, as well as for all the domestic and foreign compliance for the Deloitte US Firms' entities.

About the Team

The Indirect Tax team is responsible for the preparation and filing of the tax returns associated with the various indirect taxes to which the Deloitte US Firms is subject, including sales/use, VAT/GST, gross receipts, local business licenses, personal property tax, and federal and state withholding taxes. The team works remotely and from business hubs in Atlanta, Dallas, Houston and Nashville/Hermitage.

Job Overview & Key Relationships:

As a Tax Manager - Internal Indirect Tax, you will be responsible for managing our processes related to Global Information Reporting ("GIR"), Local Business Licenses, and Personal Property Tax compliance. You will evaluate transactions with foreign vendors, ensuring that the proper documentation is in place and invoices include all required information. You will oversee quarterly and annual filings, and address any controversy items. You will serve as the primary point of contact for USFT when consulting with our tax advisors. You will also assume responsibilities for budgeting and forecasting the various taxes. Finally, you will assist with transforming our people, processes, and technology.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Manage and lead our federal and state GIR compliance process, while coordinating between our Finance, Accounts Payable, Vendor Maintenance, and advisors.

  • Review relevant workpapers for quarterly and annual returns to ensure completeness and accuracy.

  • Conduct various analytical analysis to identify issues and propose corrective actions.

  • Ensure timely tax payments to jurisdictions and review corresponding journal entries.

  • Produce annual vendor tax forms for mailing.

  • Reconcile relevant balance sheet accounts related to GIR filings.

  • Collaborate with our advisors to track any potential legislative changes and determine their impact to the US Firms.

  • Manage and lead our local business license and property tax processes.

  • Coordinate information required by our advisors to prepare local business license and property tax compliance filings.

  • Track and submit payment requests for all real property tax liabilities.

  • Oversee maintenance of USFT indirect tax files ( i.e., documenting returns filed: mailing dates with certified receipts and all necessary supporting documentation).

  • Ensure annual calendars and databases are maintained and up to date.

  • Coordinate internal and external audit activities; review responses to correspondence with tax authorities.

  • Prepare annual forecast of local business licenses and personal property tax expenses and work with our Finance Business Partners to submit these amounts to the overall US Firms' plan.

  • Work with our Tax Technology Consultants to determine how to leverage emerging technologies to gain efficiencies in our processes.

  • Provide training and development to seniors and staff accountants.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's in Accounting or Finance required.

  • CPA or other relevant certification.

  • Five (5) + years of prior experience.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Strong leadership and management skills.

  • Prior experience supervising tax professionals on a project or engagement basis.

  • Ability to train and develop staff.

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities.

  • Tax forecasting / planning experience.

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for employer sponsorship, now or at any time in the future.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree.

  • Experience with SAP or other financial systems.

  • Experience with OneSource.

The wage range for this role takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets; experience and training; licensure and certifications; and other business and organizational needs. The disclosed range estimate has not been adjusted for the applicable geographic differential associated with the location at which the position may be filled. At Deloitte, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current range is $93,000 - $171,300.

You may also be eligible to participate in a discretionary annual incentive program, subject to the rules governing the program, whereby an award, if any, depends on various factors, including, without limitation, individual and organizational performance.
