Job Description:

Duties/Responsibilities

• Coordinates surgery scheduling for patients/families in alignment with surgeon, OR, and hospital availability (scheduling may be elective, complex, combo, add-on, or reschedule)

• Acts as liaison with patients/families and surgeons, advance-practice providers, OR staff, master OR scheduler, primary nursing care team, and/or support personnel; may include working with external surgery sites

• Performs scheduling and pre-registration process for appointments for pre-screening exams, diagnostic testing, and post-operative visits related to surgery

• Collaborates with Revenue Cycle for financial or authorization status for surgery; supports communication with patients/families and surgeons’ care teams and OR staff about financial or authorization status and effects on surgery plans

• Verifies surgical documents and data, including surgical consent, in advance of surgery date/time

• Monitors OR block time to achieve high level of resource utilization in support of organizational goals and metrics; maintains awareness and support of case allocation to surgeons’ block times

• Screens and routes inbound/outbound calls in a timely manner; creates telephone encounters as necessary

• Abides by organizational and HIPAA guidelines, privacy practices, patient confidentiality, and patient rights

• Obtains accurate collection of patient demographics, insurance coverage, and other relevant information

• Promotes and assists patients/families in signing up for MyChart

• Maintains and distributes incoming departmental faxes

• Maintains and acts on individual email and InBasket pools and messages

• Scans clinical record information and correspondence into patient’s electronic record

• Maintains assigned work queues in Epic

• Maintains patient information and documentation in electronic medical record

  Required Skills/Abilities

• High school diploma or equivalent required

• Minimum 2-years’ experience in contact center, medical office, or healthcare setting required, with at least 2-years’ experience in a surgical specialty

• Strong written and verbal communication skills required

• Strong organizational and interpersonal skills required
