The Sr Principal Architect, Cybersecurity plays a critical role in supporting our corporate goal of reliability by designing and implementing robust security architectures and policies. By ensuring that security is integrated early into the development process and aligns with industry best practices and emerging trends, the security architect helps to fortify the company's systems against potential threats, thereby contributing to the overall reliability and resilience of its operations.

What you'll do

Lead the evolution of current cyber technical strategies to fully embrace and secure American Airlines’ Cloud first, DevOps enabled direction.
Continue to shift security left into the application space and increase secure development capabilities and practices.
Design and define security architectures and policies, as well as automate them in a way that fits naturally with how application developers work.
Analyze market, understand emerging trends, shape our security strategy to apply these new modern trends into the technical ecosystem.
Key influencer in the recruiting of technical cyber talent.
Lead and actively represent American Airlines in the Aviation – Information Sharing and Analysis Centers’ (A-ISAC) committees and influence industry direction.
Provide expert Cybersecurity architecture viewpoints for all assigned strategies within enterprise level initiatives.
Work hand in hand with Cybersecurity program management to ensure alignment with strategy and vision.
Maintain regular engagement and proactive partnership with technology teams to ensure assigned strategies align with business and technical needs, requirements, and constraints.
Support the Cyber Engagement activities by being an active participant in the Cyber Ninja outreach efforts, Cyber Policy Governance efforts, and Cybersecurity consulting activities.
Provide expert input into the collective Cybersecurity strategy to ensure that future security investments are aligned appropriately when considering key priorities such as business and cyber risk and the evolving threat landscape.
Partner with business and technology to provide expert security guidance into design and implementation of enterprise security capabilities.
Explore emerging technologies/practices and develops prototypes and concepts/ideas with little or no guidance; incorporates these into architectural solution when appropriate.

All you'll need for success
Minimum Qualifications- Education & Prior Job Experience
Bachelor's in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Technology, Information Systems (CIS/MIS), Engineering or equivalent experience
7 years of application systems development experience
5 years architectural and design experience
Preferred Qualifications- Education & Prior Job Experience
10 years of cybersecurity strategy planning and security architecture design experience
Demonstrated relevant security expertise in designing security solutions for a mix of technology areas, with a focus on cloud and application security
5 years of technical or team leadership experience
2+ years' Cloud architecture or development experiences in IBM Public and Azure
2+ years' experience in Agile methodology
2+ years' experience in DevOps deployment processes
Airline industry experience and multiple domain knowledges, such as passenger reservation, customer experience, flight operations, scheduling, yield management and pricing, codeshare alliances, merchandizing, distribution etc.
Skills, Licenses & Certifications
Background in Enterprise/Solutions Architecture or software engineering
Command of architecture, design patterns and business processes
Mastery of application, data and infrastructure architecture disciplines
Knowledge of industry wide technology trends and best practices
Expertise in working in in large, collaborative teams to achieve organizational goals, and passionate about building an innovative culture
Experienced in technology transformations and migration to one or more Cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, GCP or OCI
Strong technical leader able to drive to outcomes and mentor delivery teams
Hands-on experience with Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) and Platform as a Service (PaaS) tools and platforms
Hands-on experience with containers and container orchestration platforms (aka Docker & Kubernetes)
Expertise in one or more cloud native relational databases such as MySql, PostgreSql and NoSQL databases such as Cassandra and MongoDB highly desired
Demonstrated track record in building platforms and tools that accelerate technology transformations
Expertise with databases and migration to/from enterprise class databases highly desired
Experience with Ubuntu is a plus
