About the role:

Under general direction of and as part of the Global Litigation team, the Sr Litigation Counsel will be responsible for all aspects of handling claims and litigation in the U.S. and internationally.

This role is part of the Legal Services job function, which provides legal counsel and guidance in the ordinary and special activities of the organization.

What you'll do, as part of the Global Litigation Team:

  • Manage claims, disputes and litigation brought by and against the Company.

  • Manage all aspects of external counsel engagement, including communication, reviewing service levels, and managing budgets related to external services.

  • Provide legal counsel and guidance to managers, executives and employees on legal aspects of the Company’s various business lines.

  • Advise local legal and business teams on CBRE’s position, risk appetite and strategy in disputes.

  • Investigate claims and complaints by or against the Company, including interviewing relevant parties and preparing reports based on findings.

  • Collaborate with Compliance, Investigations, and Employment or Transactional legal teams to develop problem-solving strategies and provide guidance to internal stakeholders.

  • Recommend enhancements to policies or processes using lessons learned from legal disputes and, with relevant stakeholders, implement best practices.

  • Maintain current knowledge of the law in areas of special interest to the Company.

  • No formal supervisory responsibilities in this position but may mentor and partner with junior lawyer(s) or professional staff.

What you'll need:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.   • Juris Doctorate with a minimum of 10 years of in-house or private practice litigation experience, including managing $1+ million cases. Trial experience preferred. Knowledge of employment and international disputes a plus.

  • Member of State Bar in good standing.

  • Ability to comprehend, analyze, and interpret complex business documents. Ability to respond effectively to critical issues. Ability to empower and work through issues with key employees and client groups to take desired action.

  • Requires knowledge of financial terms and principles. Ability to calculate sophisticated figures. Conducts financial/business analysis including the preparation of reports.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including ability to make effective and persuasive presentations on complex topics to management, employees and/or third parties.

  • Ability to solve advanced problems and address varying or competing interests in complex situations. Requires analytical and quantitative skills with confirmed experience in developing strategic solutions for a growing matrix-based multi-industry sales environment. Draws upon the analysis of others and makes recommendations of significance to the operation.

  • Ability to work independently, run multiple tasks and set priorities with excellent follow-up skills and organization.

  • Ability to make legal decisions with thorough understanding of procedures, company policies, and business practices to achieve general results. Responsible for setting work unit and/or project deadlines.

  • Team player who collaborates effectively with colleagues.
