The Electro Optical Infrared Systems (EOIS) line of business within DRS has locations in Dallas and Austin, TX, Melbourne, FL, and Cypress, CA. Job Summary

Job Responsibilities

  • Involved with the design, fabrication and modification of mechanical and/or electro mechanical components, sub-systems and systems. May include Mechanical Analysis, Aerodynamics/Fluids, Thermal, Fluid Systems, Mechanical Packaging, or others. Evaluate and recommend design approaches to meet production requirements for new or improved products or services. Investigate solutions to product or process problems.

  • Support and participate in technical activity

  • Design, develop, analyze, document and support testing of products, systems or subsystems

  • May use computer-aided engineering or other design/analysis software in the performance of assignments

  • Ability to work independently under supervision of others

  • Provide regular reporting of progress and status

  • Responsible for completion of assigned task on time and meeting technical requirements

  • Review customer specifications and requirements, and under direction, develop designs to best support them, including cost as a key design variable

  • Specify and evaluate supplier components, subsystems and services

  • Support the program design to cost and design for manufacture requirements

  • Develop prototypes to retire key development risks as directed

  • Communicate clearly (written and oral) with other company personnel and the customer as required

  • May participate in preparation of less complex proposals

  • Support, communicate, reinforce and defend the mission, values and culture of the organization

  • Attend appropriate engineering, customer or business meetings

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical engineering or related technical degree

  • 0-2 years of experience in a relevant engineering/technical field

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a US DoD Clearance, which requires US Citizenship.

  • Experience/Knowledge with manufacturing methods and processes, factory standards, fabrication processes, and assembly documentation.

  • Excellent grasp of heat and mass transfer

  • Understanding of materials and material properties

  • Design of experiments and practical problem solving

  • Well-developed communication skills, both in verbal presentations and written documentation

  • Ability to work in a team environment

  • Microsoft Office Suite of tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

  • Ability to read detailed engineering drawings, specifications and familiarity with Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing per ASME Y14.5M

Desired Skills

  • Knowledge of optical systems

  • Familiarity with cryogenics, vacuum technology, infrared imaging systems, opto-mechanical design, and electromagnetism

  • Experience using Creo(Pro/E) or equivalent 3D CAD tool

  • Knowledge of quality management systems such as ISO 9001, AS9100
