Job Summary and Qualifications
Works closely with Physicians and Radiologists to ensure the delivery of the diagnosis for the patients. Must have ability to work in demanding situations with high volume management. Works under direction of radiologists and supervisor in order to produce images of highest diagnostic quality. Able to work under pressure, coordinating and prioritizing workflow Expected to become proficient on multiple equipment types, CR, and DR systems as well as providing service at multiple locations. The Radiology Technologist is expected to have a high level of knowledge in anatomy and some understanding of pathology. Proficiency in operation of Radiology equipment stationary and mobile, including c arm. Good understanding of electronic imaging, PACS, and image analysis. Positioning skills include proficiency for routine, trauma, and fluoroscopy imaging. Understands protocol selection and/or modification to provide highest quality images with lowest possible repeats/dose. Under direction of radiologists continuously keeps abreast of dose of fluor time, radiation protection to self and others. Works as part of Imaging Services with close interaction with physicians, demonstrating full understanding of clinical diagnosis as it pertains to images obtained. Adheres to established protocols by Radiologists. Radiology technologists must have ability to work with efficiency, initiative, independence as well as part of a multi member team in the performance of procedures. Demonstrate ability to make decisions always with patient’s best interest in mind. Images submitted must be of highest diagnostic quality, accurately annotated with all indicated labels, etc. Proficient in venipuncture and understands all aspects of medication safety. May be required to assist radiologist in special procedures in Radiology/Fluoroscopy and will demonstrate understanding of protocols and radiologist preferences for these procedures. Remains highly alert to patient safety in Radiology, and all actions demonstrate conscious efforts to achieve this. Portrays professionalism in communications with various departments, works as a team player. Demonstrates interest and pursues expanding expertise in profession keeping abreast of standards in the field of Radiologic Technology.
What you will do in this role:
Coordinates daily schedules and workload for IP, OP, IR, STATS, etc.
Demonstrates ability to prioritize ordered procedures effectively to minimize delays and maximize efficiency
Coordinates patients with multiple destinations for procedures with other testing areas to minimize patient delays and reduce travel.
Assists scheduling in coordinating add on procedures, scheduling of biopsies, etc.
Manages procedures assigned on shift and makes every effort to complete ordered procedures within acceptable timeframes, and within assigned shift
Communicates with team any pertinent patient information between shifts, between modalities, between other hospital departments.
Understands and interprets orders as indications for appropriate protocol, seeks clarification when needed.
Verifies orders and patient identification per policy prior to start of procedures
Investigates reason for exam/diagnosis: researches priors images, reports, or other studies which provide indications for ordered procedures
Obtains pertinent history and pregnancy screening when applicable, from patient, and provides information to radiologist
Prepares areas for procedures prior to patient entering exam rooms
Proficient in sterile technique as it pertains to area of expertise, understands sterile fields, etc. for select procedures
Proficient in operation, complies with medication protocols, accesses pyxsis, and accurately assigns charges
Positions patient according to established protocols
Proficient in trauma imaging and management of the trauma patient
Understands techniques for imaging various patient body types to provide diagnostic quality images
Selects exposure techniques according to technique charts and within range for optimal visualization by radiologist in PACS
Consistently produces images of high diagnostic quality
Demonstrates ability to identify images for possible review by radiologist prior to patient release
Indicates needs for special attention i.e. call reports etc. on history sheets or in PACS as appropriate
Utilizes resources, references, etc. to ensure proper images obtained and image quality is maintained as needed (ex: supervisor interaction vendor calls, etc)
Consults with supervisor or Radiologist as indicated in order to provide highest levels of accuracy in scans.
Scans efficiently within recommended time frames per procedure, coordinates patient flow with good judgment to achieve consistent and timely workflow for department, Radiologists, and patients
Identifies and prioritizes findings for radiologist which may indicate urgency in reporting as appropriate within scope of practice. Understands priorities for reports based on patient status, pending surgery, referring physician request, or indications form images as appropriate. Utilizes critical thinking in order to provide most effective means of patient care and services to physicians.
Participates and assists radiologists in IR studies.
Coordinates biopsy procedures with pathology, nursing, etc.
Understands specific alternate protocols for orthopedics
Makes every effort to become familiar with physician requirements per procedure, and intuitively assists with understanding of his/her expectations in all procedures.
Consistently pursues advancement of skill level and professional credentialing
Maintains integrity and cleanliness of all equipment, with care and according to manufacturer’s guidelines
Reports equipment failures as directed by modality leader, calls service as needed
Performs basic troubleshooting and contacts on line support as needed
Communicates delays in patient service to any affected referring departments
Reacts appropriately to downtime of equipment by initiating appropriate communications to chain of support and forms action plan to maintain continuity of service according to established procedures. Coordinates plan with coworkers
Maintains cleanliness of assigned areas
Manages supplies required for modality by communicating needs for replenishment, maintain orderly storage, and disposing of waste according to hospital policy.
What qualifications you will need:
1 year hospital based experience (clinical training applies)
TDH Certification
Basic Cardiac Life Support must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date
