Join Spurwink in an innovative partnership with the Yarmouth Police, Cumberland Police and Falmouth Police to help address the mental health and social service needs of the youth and adults in Cumberland, Falmouth, and Yarmouth. The Police Community Liaison will work in close partnership with police officers to assist identified individuals in accessing needed resources and services. The Police Community Liaison will complete an initial assessment and connect individuals to the appropriate resource to reduce risk and improve outcomes for the individual. Partnership will include building collaboration with community stakeholders and providing training to Police Departments and the public on request.

    DUTIES:

  • Provide follow-up services to individuals after police involvement including identification and assessment of risk factors and needs.

  • Assist individuals to access to community services to address risk factors and needs including in the areas of housing, job support, mental health, and substance use treatment.

  • Provide ongoing support to identified individual through phone contact and face-to-face meetings at the Tri-Town Departments and in community settings.

  • Work collaboratively with police department staff and community providers to resolve individual and systems barriers impacting individuals and community.

  • Convene and facilitate a monthly group of invested community stakeholders to increase collaboration.

  • Accompany officers on calls to assist with mental health related needs in the moment (once officers have secured the scene).

  • Provide or assist the Tri-Town Departments with requested staff and public training needs.

  • Work flexible schedule to include some non-traditional hours to align with the Police Department needs.

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    Minimum of a bachelor's degree with minimum of 2 years of human services experience. Master's degree counseling or social work preferred.
