The intern will work within the Manufacturing Engineering team to gain experience with unit operations in Upstream, Downstream and Process Support Systems. As part of the placement the intern will be supporting ongoing projects for process optimisation and continuous improvement. The expectation being the intern will contribute to and own elements of projects under the guidance and support of senior manufacturing engineers.

Within the manufacturing department, engineers are often involved with challenges to maintain or increase product yield, optimise or reduce consumption of raw materials and utilities while striving to maintain production throughput at reduced cadence. The intern will be afforded the opportunity for involvement in projects related to these challenges while gaining experience in process design, process automation systems and project management. A key element of the internship role will include the development of monitoring programmes using data analytic software. In addition, the intern will gain fundamental experience in quality management systems in particular change control mechanisms.

Key Roles & Responsibilities

  • Achieve key department deliverables including training completion and QMS targets.

  • Liaise with a cross functional team for concept and design of process improvement/operational excellence and monitoring projects.

  • Use of data analytics platforms (SEEQ, OSI PI, Bio-G) to assess and quantify process improvements.

  • Support review/approval of automation changes.

  • Support development of functional testing documentation.

  • Functional testing of mechanical and process automation changes.

  • Maintain and present progress and project status reports.

What Qualities Are We Looking For?

We are looking for highly motivated individuals who can collaborate in teams and have the willingness to learn.

  • Engineering or Science discipline of study

  • Passionate about the biopharma sector and innovation in healthcare

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office (Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel, Word).

  • Understanding of engineering drawings and schematics.

  • Basic knowledge of engineering process design and biopharmaceutical manufacturing.

  • Ability to work individually and as part of a team.

  • Good presentation skills.

  • Problem solving, decision making and troubleshooting.

  • Self-motivated
