ummary: Operates conventional, special purpose, and numerical control (NC) machines and machining centers to fabricate metallic and nonmetallic parts by performing the following duties.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Studies blueprints, sketches, drawings, manuals, and specifications to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished work piece.

  • Selects, aligns, and secures materials on machines such as mills, lathes, and grinders.

  • Starts and observes machine operation to detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining, and adjusts machine or machine’s program as required.

  • Sets up and operates machine on trial run to verify accuracy of machine settings on existing jobs or programmed data.

  • Confirms controls to regulate machining factors such as speed, feed, coolant flow, and depth and angle of cut, or enters commands to retrieve, input, or edit computerized machine control media.

  • Verifies conformance of finished work piece to specifications.

  • Verifies dimensions and alignment of assembly through the use of calipers, micrometers, depth micrometers, and indicators to verify dimensions to print.

  • Confers with machinists, engineers, production personnel, programmers, and Material Preparation and Finishing Department or others to resolve machining or assembly problems.

  • Updates inventory systems for usage and scrap, and prepares Material Tags for non-conforming parts.

  • Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:

High school diploma, or GED, required.

Machine Operator experience in a manufacturing environment

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to work unsupervised.

  • Strategic and creative thinking to analyze issues that may arise and create solutions.

  • Ability to respond positively to feedback and implement change in process and procedures as needed.

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.

  • High level interpersonal skills to work effectively with others to meet production demands

  • Strong problem-solving skills and willingness to roll up one's sleeves to get the job done

  • Skilled at working effectively with cross functional teams in a matrix organization

  • Good written and verbal communication skills

Physical Demands:

  • Employee is regularly required to stand for 4 hours at a time, with minimal breaks.

  • Employee is regularly required to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move 50 pounds.

  • Employee is regularly required to operate machinery, including but not limited to fork lifts

  • Employee is regularly required to wear safety glasses

  • Employee is required to be on site during scheduled shift to perform daily duties and responsibilities.

  • Requires daily face-to-face interaction with employees on production line.

Work Environment

  • The employee will normally work in a temperature-controlled production environment, with some exposure to loud noise.
