Position Objective:

This Position is responsible for supervising maintenance and cyclical programs safely and efficiently for Stations and Facilities in the Structures Department while ensuring compliance with State regulations and Metro-North Railroad (MNR) standards and requirements. Define and plan work for future maintenance programs based on requirements for safe and reliable operations.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage and monitor major and cyclical maintenance programs for stations and facilities while adhering to Metro-North Railroad safety standards.

  • Develop a schedule for maintenance planning, implementation of work , and budgeting and monitoring of same. Oversee construction and renovation projects to improve efficiency and to ensure that facilities meet environmental, health , and security standards and comply with applicable regulations and MNR standards.

  • Inspect stations and facilities to determine future work scope. Monitor stations and facilities to ensure that they remain safe, secure, and well-maintained, and that any identifiable issues are promptly addressed.

  • Responsible for project budget and deadlines for stations and facilities cyclical work program.

  • Oversee the maintenance and repair of equipment such as air conditioning, heating, plumbing , and electrical systems at Metro-North stations and facilities. Respond to emergency repairs and breakdowns which may or may not cause service disruptions and ensure repairs are properly prioritized, scheduled, and performed.

  • Prepare and review operational reports and schedules to ensure accuracy and efficiency of Stations and Facilities.

  • Direct and supervise staff. Prepare staff work schedules and work assignments.

    Required Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Strong knowledge of job skills for various crafts such as carpentry, masonry, plumbing , and electrical work.

  • Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail and capable of working independently.

  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office and/or comparable applications.

  • Demonstrated project management skills with familiarity with budgets.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Strong ability to interact with all levels of management within Metro-North as well as local community representatives.

  • Knowledge of standard safety policies and procedures.

  • Knowledge of structural systems, and methods of preserving steel, wood, and concrete.

  • Must have a valid Driver’s license.

  • Ability to be available to be on call 24 hours / 7 days a week.

    Required Education and Experience:

  • Associate's degree in Engineering or related field. Demonstrated equivalent experience, education, and/or technical credentials may be considered in place of a degree.

  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience in construction/building trades and/or performing inspections of construction projects or facilities.

  • Minimum two (2) years of experience managing/supervising a diverse staff and/or managing a process.

    The following is/are preferred, but other satisfactory combinations of relevant experience, education, and/or technical credentials will be considered:

  • Familiarity with collective bargaining agreements.

  • Experience working in a transportation operations environment.

  • Experience managing others in the construction/building trade.

    This position is safety-sensitive and subject to toxicological testing.

    According to the New York State Public Officers Law & the MTA Code of Ethics, all employees who hold a policymaking position must file an Annual Statement of Financial Disclosure (FDS) with the NYS Commission on Ethics and Lobbying in Government (the “Commission”).

    Employees driving company vehicles must complete defensive driver training once every three years for current MNR drivers; or within 180 days of hire or transfer for an employee entering an authorized driving position.
