Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated Lab Technician to develop operating procedures and perform tests for various water and wastewater treatment operations. This role involves conducting jar tests, bench and pilot scale evaluations, column and batch testing, and working with filtration systems. The technician will also be responsible for data collection, operating and maintaining small-scale equipment, preparing samples and reagents, and performing various laboratory tests.

Responsibilities

  • Develop operating procedures and perform tests for water and wastewater treatment operations.

  • Conduct jar tests to determine and optimize chemical dosing for various treatment approaches.

  • Perform bench and pilot scale evaluations.

  • Conduct column and batch testing for ion exchange resins, carbon adsorption, activated alumina, and other materials.

  • Work with filtration systems including conventional, membrane, and ceramic.

  • Collect data by measuring and recording operating conditions such as pumping rates, pH, ORP, temperature, and pressure.

  • Operate and conduct light maintenance on small-scale equipment such as pumps, heaters, and mixers.

  • Prepare samples for testing and reagents for in-house lab analyses.

  • Perform laboratory analyses including Dissolved Oxygen (DO), color, temperature, ORP, alkalinity, hardness, total suspended solids (TSS), total dissolved solids (TDS), chemical oxygen demand (COD), total organic carbon (TOC), turbidity, and phosphorus/phosphate.

  • Pull samples for third-party laboratory analysis.

  • Maintain reagents and lab inventory.

  • Maintain calibration records for lab equipment.

  • Maintain Safety Data Sheets (SDS) documentation for lab chemicals and reagents.

  • Manage and communicate data effectively.

  • Maintain cleanliness of lab equipment, including plasticware and glassware used in lab analyses and operating areas.

Essential Skills

  • Proficiency in laboratory, chemistry, and wet chemistry.

  • Ability to work precisely in solution making, with measuring devices, data handling, and instrument operation.

  • Proficiency with standard laboratory instruments such as pH meters, TSS, probes for measuring process variables, HACH spectrophotometer, analytical balances, and volumetric glassware.

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Physics, Biology, or a related field.

  • Knowledge of titration, reverse osmosis, quality control, and quality assurance.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word.

  • Strong communication skills to interact with team members and understand chemical data and procedures.

  • Detail-oriented

  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Demonstrate initiative and willingness to learn and grow in responsibility on the job.

  • Ability to work nights and weekends as needed, depending on project requirements.

Work Environment

The work environment may involve varying shift hours, including the possibility of night and weekend work as projects ramp up. The role requires handling standard laboratory equipment and maintaining a clean and organized workspace.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $22.00/hr.
