About the Opportunity

This is an open position with FirstEnergy Pennsylvania Electric Company, a subsidiary of FirstEnergyCorp. [PP]

Duties

Under close supervision, as an entry level installer, assist employees of higher classification in the field or shop, in connection with inspecting, testing, adjusting, repairing, installing and removing electric metering and associated equipment. Under direct supervision, as they become qualified through acquired experience, training, and testing, does such work requiring a minor degree of skill, and perform other duties such as:

  • Assisting meter techs of higher classification

  • Installation, exchanging, and removing self-contained, single-phase meters up to 250 volts.

  • Inspecting, testing, and calibrating self-contained single-phase meters up to 250 volts

  • By-passing customer loads without interrupting service

  • Inspecting installations for evidence of diversion or other irregularities related to theft of service, foreign or improper connections.

  • Inspecting single phase installations in connection with high bill complaints, or low consumption; performing operations such as testing, checking customer connections and equipment, as well as customer wiring for defects and other irregularities and reporting those conditions.

  • Connecting/disconnecting service entrances

  • Verifying suitability of watthour meters and associated equipment assigned to installations, checking customers’ connected load

  • Reading meters as needed

  • Carrying out disconnect orders for non-payment of bills and reconnect orders

  • Making required meter and other service reports

  • Issuing material charges and credits, maintaining an adequate supply of meters and other materials on assigned vehicle

  • Receiving, storing and issuing meters, meter instrument parts, tools and supplies, and performing the necessary clerical work

  • Performing miscellaneous maintenance, assembly, repair, wiring or construction work as directed

  • Reporting abnormal conditions that develop during progress of work

  • Performing other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • No prior work experience required

  • Must have the practical equivalent of a senior high school technical course, exclusive of academic subjects, preferably including elementary electricity, physics, algebra, geometry and trigonometry

  • Must demonstrate aptitude for and dexterity in the handling of hand tools and small, delicate mechanical devices

  • Must possess the necessary hand tools required for the work such as: pliers, knife, and screwdriver

  • Must have a working knowledge of the function, care and operation of simple machinery

  • Must possess good interpersonal skills in relation to both company personnel and our customers

  • Must be able to work from simple drawings and diagrams; must be able to follow simple instructions and directions

  • Must be able to learn the principles of operation and proper application of firefighting equipment installed on the properties or equipment to which assigned, and the company First Aid, CPR, and AED practices as prescribed by the Company

The above is indicative of the grade of work required of a Meterworker C. In addition, assign­ment may be made to any other work of equal or lesser skill within the capabilities of the individual, to meet emergencies or other operating needs.
