Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Inspects finished mattresses and box springs for defects. Returns products and notifies appropriate department(s) and/or supervisor(s) of defects in order to correct the defects.

Inspects each side of finished mattresses and box springs for defects such as dirt, skipped stitches, loose threads, loose staples and other defects in accordance with specifications. This involves lifting and turning mattresses and box springs with another employee in a standing position.

Trims excess threads with scissors.

Notifies and returns defective products to appropriate department(s) and/or supervisor(s) for corrections/re-work.

Provides assistance as needed with staging which involves lifting and carrying mattresses or box springs to packing area, and then from packing machine to proper storage locations.

Provides assistance as needed with moving mattresses or box springs from storage area location into truck trailer.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Functional/Technical Competencies

Good orientation/attention to detail skills and ability to sort items

Effective communication and interpersonal skills with basic ability to read and write English

Demonstrated ability and willingness to work safely, take initiative, multi-task, and work both independently and as a part of a team.  Work experience with pneumatic tools and/or in a manufacturing environment preferred. 

Experience/Education

High School diploma or equivalent.

Prior experience in bedding assembly.

Must be at least 18 years of age.

With the above, the approximate training period for this position is two weeks.

Good orientation/attention to detail skills and ability to sort items.

Ability to interpret and support standards, policies and procedures established by the Company and Serta Inc.

Errors committed in the course of performing the duties of this position can cause defective products to be shipped. This can lead to customer service problems and can impact the financial success of the Plant and Company.

Must be able to comprehend and follow work instructions and production tickets.  Must be able to understand and follow verbal instructions; communicate with coworkers and management clearly and respectfully; and work in an ever-changing, fast-paced team environment. 

Job Factors/Work Environments

Must stand and walk for a minimum of 8 hours per day or longer in overtime situations as required.  Also must be able to lift heavy product or raw materials up to 120 pounds multiple times per hour during an 8-hour shift or longer in overtime situations to meet customer demand.  Heavy loads must be team-lifted.  A work pace that maintains integrity of make-to-order system is required. 

Safety-focused, fast-paced manufacturing plant engaged in Lean Manufacturing/Continuous Improvement.  Work environment includes a clean and safe work area and exposure to high noise decibels, hot raw materials, fire-retardant materials, and limited chemicals.  Personal Protective Equipment is required to be worn for any hazards and is supplied by the company.

Starting pay for the successful applicant depends on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education.
