Role Summary
Role Summary
Set and operate Honing machines to support the manufacture of match-ground components in line with engineering drawing requirements, whilst taking responsibility for inspection and quality of own work. Part of a multidisciplinary team achieving performance measures, continuous improvement and first line maintenance objectives.
Core Responsibilities:
§ Carry out a wide range of tasks, setting and operating machines to support the manufacture of match-ground assemblies and/or hand fine-finish of components, to meet drawing requirements. Produce and 100% inspect a wide range of component parts in batches.
§ Decide on appropriate tooling required, making tooling if necessary.
§ Meet high tolerances required, eg:-
§ Precision hone bores: 0.0005 inch max
§ Bore lap straightness, roundness, ovality and taper : 0.00002 inch
§ Surface finish: 2 micro inch
§ Overlap all machined parts as matched units and ensure traceability of the matched assembly.
§ Produce first off component of batch and inspect before proceeding to rest of batch.
§ Test component functionality by conducting drop test.
§ Appropriately clean, lubricate, and protective pack components for storage, as required.
§ Perform tool maintenance if necessary; complete any required documentation on batch and on tooling used.
§ Record critical dimensions/attributes matched assemblies.
§ Operate honing machines as required, and a range of measuring equipment including air gauges, comparators, slip gauges and dial bore gauges, etc. checking straightness, roundness, ovality, taper and surface finish, as appropriate.
§ Set and operate inspection equipment to support the manufacture and verification of finished product to drawing requirements. Check calibration of ring gauges, liaising closely with Standards Room.
Skills, Knowledge & Attributes
§ A good standard of general education is required.
§ An engineering apprenticeship is desirable, although training will be given.
§ 3 years similar experience in an engineering manufacturing facility making a similar product.
§ Ability to read and interpret Engineering drawings.
§ The ability to use inspection equipment associated with this role is essential.
§ Good computer skills are desirable, as is a knowledge of the computer systems used (SAP, Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook etc).
§ Ability to hone/lap and inspect to the high tolerances and quality required.
