The incumbent assesses public health education needs, plans, develops, implements and evaluates educational programs, and prepares and submits a variety of documentation. The incumbent coordinates and staffs health fairs, work-site wellness programs, diabetes and any other related public health educational programs consistent with Federal and State and local laws and rules. The work is performed under the general supervision of a higher level administrator. Does related work as required.Work Hours: Full-Time, 35 hrs per week, with benefitsSalary: $23.8479-30.1854/HR (CSEA Union)Location: Cortland County Health DepartmentStatus: Non-competitive, probationaryBenefits: New York State Retirement System, Low Deductible Health Insurance Plan, Generous Paid Time Off Including 13 Paid Holidays, Tuition Assistance Available After One Year, Eligibility for Public Service Loan Forgiveness.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Either:(a)Possession of a Bachelor’s degree or higher in Health Education, Health Science, Public Health, Health Promotion, Community Health, or Health Communications; OR(b)Possession of a Bachelor’s degree or higher in a Education, Nursing, Epidemiology, Wellness and Fitness, or Nutrition or a related degree; OR(c)Possession of a Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Human Services, Social Work or Psychology and two (2) years experience in health education; OR(d)Possession of a Master’s degree in Public Health or Health Education.NOTE: Degree must have been awarded by a college or university accredited by a regional, national, or specialized agency recognized as an accrediting agency by the U.S. Department of Education/U.S. Secretary of Education. If the degree was awarded by an educational institution outside of the United States and its territories, applicant must provide independent verification of equivalency. Applicants must pay the required evaluation fee.SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:1.A Public Health Educator must satisfactorily complete fifteen (15) hours of continuing education in health education related topics approved by the NYS Health Department within one (1) year of appointment.2.Possession of a valid New York State driver’s license is required.
