Job Description

The College of Education and Human Development at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi, an R2 and designated Hispanic and Minority Serving Institution, invites applications for a full-time, 9-month tenure-track Assistant Professor of Higher Education Administration with demonstrated engagement of critical, mixed methods, and/or quantitative methodologies to begin in the Fall of 2025.

The Department of Educational Leadership is committed to advancing educational leadership across all educational settings. We offer an M.S. in Higher Education Administration and an Ed.D. in Educational Leadership with a cognate of Higher Education Administration. Both emphasize student development, institutional governance, and operations through a critical social justice lens.

We seek a scholar with higher education experience to advance the university's HSI/MSI mission and prepare educational leaders. More specifically, we seek a colleague whose research and teaching engage critical and innovative approaches and methods to address institutional challenges, social/environmental barriers, and inequities in practice. Our future colleague will explore ways to improve college access and transitions, academic and social success, and/or seek policy-related interventions. We will also prioritize candidates who can demonstrate connections between their research, teaching, and service, aligned with the university mission, and demonstrate the capacity to mentor the needs of our student populations, including first-generation and/or low-income graduate students.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Teach core and research graduate courses in the Higher Education Administration M.S. and Educational Leadership Ed.D. programs

  • Conduct exemplary research commensurate with Research 2 tenure-track faculty appointments, leading to the development of innovative ideas and publications in a variety of scholarly outlets

  • Contribute to the University’s commitment to student success as a Hispanic and Minority Serving Institution

  • Advise and mentor graduate students, including chairing and serving on doctoral dissertation committees

  • Support efforts to recruit M.S. and Ed.D. students

  • Fulfill service responsibilities related to program, departmental, and university affiliations

Required Qualifications:

  • Earned doctorate in higher education, student affairs administration, or a closely related field by August 2025. Advanced ABD will be considered; degree must be conferred at the time of appointment.

  • Demonstrated evidence of engaging in scholarly/creative works and teaching to enhance the HSI/MSI mission of the university with expertise or scholarly emphasis in one or more of the following areas: higher education policy and finance, financial aid, admissions/access, international higher education, developmental education, fundraising/development, or teaching and learning

  • Demonstrated engagement of mixed methods, quantitative critical (quant crit), and/or large-scale data analysis in research or practice.

  • Ability to teach underserved student populations, including ongoing efforts to improve pedagogy and student outcomes

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in higher education institutional settings

  • Evidence of pursuing externally funded research support

  • Evidence of effective teaching in graduate programs in online or hybrid formats

  • Evidence of mentoring first-generation, low-income, and/or working professional graduate students
