Siemens Digital Industries Motion Control business has a clear target to be undisputed number #1 in our market and we are well on the way to achieving this.

One of the critical portfolio products we design, and manufacture are power electronic converter systems known as variable speed drives, with a power range from a few hundred Watts up to 10s of Kilowatts and voltage ranges of 200-690V. These products not only help our customers better control and digitalise their machines, but they can also help improve their carbon footprint and energy efficiency.

We currently have an exciting opportunity to recruit a Power Electronics Innovation Engineer within our UK Power Electronics Technology & Innovation group based within Siemens Congleton R&D and part of Competence Centre for Power Electronics department.

The successful person will work as part of an international innovation team based between UK & Germany with the responsibility to develop the latest range of power electronic technology and ideas which can ultimately be integrated into future products.

This position will be based at our flagship DI MC site Siemens Congleton with occasional travel to our satellite site in Newport and our HQ in Germany as well as UK partner universities and research centres.

Are you ready to change the future with us?

Your key tasks could include:

  • Design of novel innovated power electronics technologies which can bring benefits for example in technical performance or new cost benchmarks.

  • Driving topics in power electronics/ assembly and construction techniques

  • Design, prototype and test ideas using both simulations and prototypes in an agile way.

  • Early adoption of new technologies and methodologies to deliver solutions in a timely manner.

  • Hands-on design prototyping and debugging

  • Product verification testing and applying international standards.

  • Knowledge and experience of designing for EMC/ESD

  • Digital modelling and simulation of Power Electronics

  • Networking with universities; UK technical institutes to leverage knowledge and experience.

Competencies and skills you bring in:

  • Previous experience of working with power electronics hardware e.g. for converters

  • Track record of innovation, diverse thinking and creative problem solving

  • Being curious and willing to continuously improve knowledge

  • Excellent collaborator with the ability to work with multi-site international teams.

  • Show initiative, organise your work, take ownership of your tasks.

  • Capability to challenge the status quo and sell your ideas to others.

  • Not being afraid to fail but will learn from the experience and try again.

  • Knowledge of German would be a bonus but is not essential.

This role could suit someone with a master’s degree or a PHD as well as someone with several years’ experience, who is looking for a new challenge with the skills and vision to build a better tomorrow based on innovative power electronic technologies. As a minimum you should hold an electrical and electronics degree or equivalent and be able to demonstrate your passion for power electronics.
