Park Maintenance Specialist -- Full-Time (Non-Exempt)

Rate: Pay Grade: C -- $17.6382 hour/$36,687 annual to $27.7171 hour/$57,652 annual -- minimum starting salary based on prior experience and education

Location: Multiple park locations throughout Lake County, OH

Position Description:

Under the direction of the Regional Park Buildings and Grounds Manager, the Park Maintenance Specialist performs building and grounds maintenance, assuring the public's safety and maintaining the overall condition of parks buildings, grounds, and natural areas.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Performs mowing and general landscaping throughout the year and snow removal in winter by means of plowing, snow blowing, shoveling and/or treatment.
  • Performs custodial tasks before and after daily visitation, park programs, rentals, and community events including sweeping and mopping the floor, washing tables, emptying trash/recycling, washing windows, cleaning restrooms and stocking with toilet paper and hand towels.
  • Performs special projects as assigned including construction, painting, electrical and plumbing.
  • Troubleshoots and performs basic repairs and maintenance to buildings and grounds-related amenities including plumbing and electrical systems.
  • Performs special projects as assigned including trail maintenance; assisting with tree removals; assists in the construction of park amenities.
  • Operates and maintains all types of equipment in good working order.
  • Orders and stocks maintenance supplies and equipment.
  • Assists with set-up/tear down and janitorial duties associated with large special events and park programs.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

     

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • 1-2 years prior experience in general maintenance is preferred.

     

Requirements:

  • In-depth knowledge of building & grounds maintenance, janitorial, landscaping, and mechanical techniques and skills.
  • Ability to operate all types of equipment, including power tools, landscaping equipment and knowledge of applicable safety standards.
  • Ability to perform and/or learn basic carpentry, plumbing, painting, masonry and basic electrical.
  • Ability to work with limited supervision and/or in a team setting to accomplish park-related goals.
  • Knowledge of all related safety regulations and compliance in all on-going safety training requirements.
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
  • Ability to interact with others with tact and courtesy and maintain integrity and appropriate behavior in dealing with conflicts and challenges with the public, co-workers, and managers.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks in a high paced environment.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.
  • Proficiency in computer software programs including Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • May be occasionally required to work flexible hours, weekends, evenings and holidays.
  • Must possess a valid drivers' license and insurable on the Agency's liability policy. Pre-employment drug screening and background check required.
