Minimum Qualifications Minimum Qualifications: Any permanent Nurse PractitionerOn or before the date of filing your application, you must be certified and currently registered as a Nurse Practitioner in a specialty* practice area by the New York State Education DepartmentRequirement for prescribing medication: You must meet the current requirements as prescribed by the New York State Board of Nursing.*Specialty area must coincide with the scope of practice performed by an incumbent; this denotes the appropriate parenthetic.

Duties Description PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:In a clinical setting, the incumbent will provide diagnostic and therapeutic medical care and services under the direct supervision of a licensed physician. Typical duties will include:• Caring for the acute and chronic medical conditions of adults with developmental disabilities - many of whom have behavioral problems and psychiatric illness in a residential setting• Works with Psychiatrist to review his consultations of patients with treatment team. Provides psychiatric medication data for the behavior Support Plan (BSP) in a timely manner to be reviewed by the Behavior Management Committee (BMC)• Provides counseling and education to individuals and works with family members as needed.• Works with psychologists on informed consent determinations• Participates on the Emergency Response Team• Participates in Medical On-Call to provide 24/7 access to clinicians for the campus and for the community to a lesser extent• Participation in committee work as needed• Knowledge of BLS with AED resuscitation• Ordering appropriate treatment regimens and maintaining monthly orders using the e-prescribing system and working with the contracted long term care pharmacy• Performing annual medical assessments and physical exams on assigned individuals including the ordering and interpretation of routine, diagnostic tests as required• Maintain medical records in an established format (problem-oriented) with progress notes accurately reflecting current medical issues and treatments• Updating the supervising physician/Medical Director on acute problems or unresolved chronic issues affecting the health and well-being of the individuals served• Initiate any outside consultations with sub-specialists as needed and work with these consultants to obtain needed tests and procedures; assist in the preparation of court documents when obtaining consent for invasive treatments• Instruct unit personnel and individuals (where applicable) on specific treatment procedures. This will not include answering any questions about specific diagnoses or proposed treatments• Participating in multidisciplinary team meetings as required – This involves presentation of patient cases and discussion of on-call.• Maintaining a leadership role in applying the Sunmount policies that apply to medical issues, particularly the blood borne pathogen and infection control policies.
