Job Description

As an Associate in the Wealth Management Mortgage Operations Underwriting Quality Control team, you will be responsible for ensuring operational efficiency. Leveraging your comprehensive understanding of mortgage capabilities and strong mortgage acumen, you will make informed decisions that uphold the quality of our business. Your role will involve demonstrating accuracy, meeting time-sensitive deadlines, understanding controls, validating required guidelines, and solving problems.

Job responsibilities

  • Manage underwriting quality specialists, ongoing maintenance of quality testing attributes, quality team procedures and review of quality testing results.

  • Identify and escalate issues on quality reviews and escalate exceptions and procedure gaps to management.

  • Mentor, train, and provide guidance and assistance to the underwriting quality reviewers and drive performance.

  • Assist in maintaining quality by collaborating with underwriting managers to establish and execute remediation process for errors when identified and assist with remedial training as appropriate.

  • Participate in weekly review of quality results and to address opportunities with underwriting and quality teams.

  • Participate in monthly calibration meeting with underwriting management.

  • Analyze monthly quality assurance error rate to determine trends or possible P&P changes.

  • Serve as the point of contact for quality control disputes that are escalated by underwriting management.

Required qualifications, capabilities, and skills:

  • 5 years mortgage originations/mortgage underwriting experience; with Jumbo mortgages; 2 years mortgage operations supervisory or management experience, including experience coaching, team-building, and mentoring others

  • Ability to manage and maintain productivity during peak periods

  • In-depth and comprehensive understanding of the origination cycle, regulations and underwriting guidelines

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills to effectively communicate with various stakeholders

  • Analytical skills and approach to problem solving and process re-engineering.

  • Excellent written and oral executive-level communications skills

  • Proficient in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, along with content sharing solutions like SharePoint and Teams

Preferred qualifications, capabilities, and skills

  • Bachelor's degree or relevant experience

  • Prior experience across activities of people management, including hiring, training and development, succession planning and mentorship.

  • Willingness to work flexible schedules.
