JOB DESCRIPTION

This position may be eligible for a hybrid work environment (combination of remote work and in-office reporting), with the coordination and approval of the appropriate supervisor. The position is located in Columbus, OH.

Position Title: System Administrator - Infrastructure

Reports To: Manager of IT

FLSA Status: Exempt

Basic Functions: The System Administrator is responsible for providing systems design, implementation, and support for the AMP technology infrastructure. This infrastructure includes server, storage, voice and data networks, telecommunications, hardware, applications, data center components, and information security systems.

The System Administrator ensures the secure operations of the above listed systems and provides support for 24x7 operations. Additionally, this person will analyze, monitor and maintain IT infrastructure including but not limited to, physical/virtual servers, backup environment, and virtualization host. Provide high level troubleshooting skills to resolve issues and support IT business application teams where applicable. This person will lead technical staff in the design, development, and implementation of new IT systems, track progress of projects, and provide feedback to all management levels.

This person must have a strong background in server infrastructure, virtualization concepts/support, Hyperconverged Infrastructure (HCI), Disaster Recovery best practices, SAN/NAS storage, Microsoft 365, Endpoint Management, Active Directory, Microsoft Security Solutions and General Security Concepts, and core network services (DHCP/DNS), networking (LAN/WAN), and Firewalls.

Essential Functions:

  1. Provide 2nd, and 3rd level technical support, for systems and infrastructure to include, but not limited to:

a. Microsoft cloud offerings and security products

b. Virtualized infrastructure

c. Server hardware

d. Hyperconverged Infrastructure (HCI)

  1. Assist with vulnerability remediation as needed.

  2. Automate administrative tasks to improve operational efficiency.

  3. Coordinate and facilitate server platforms and data storage support/project activities with internal/external resources responsible for day to day operations of the data storage, backup and recovery, archiving, and server/OS infrastructure.

  4. Troubleshoots infrastructure problems; assists in developing best practice infrastructure solutions and makes architecture recommendations to management ; creates and maintains detailed documentation.

  5. Collaborate with Business Applications Team resources and internal Business Application support teams in order to provide support, respond to issues, and meet project objectives related to the server/OS and network environment.

  6. Collaborate with SCADA resources and internal SCADA support teams in order to provide support, respond to issues, and meet project objectives related to the OS and network environment.

  7. Participate in assigned projects according to the IT project management methodology, procedures, and processes.

  8. Provide 1st, 2nd, and 3rd level support of the Linux, Windows, backup Hardware/Software infrastructure, SAN, SCADA and Corporate Networks (LAN/WAN) environments.

  9. Ensures performance and availability meet or exceed established service level standards.

  10. Recommends, implements, and supports the corporate servers, data storage, backup/recovery, and archiving architecture and standards. Participates in disaster recovery testing and works with IT business to update and maintain documentation.

  11. Identifies process improvements, and develops business cases for new technology infrastructure investments.

  12. Actively participates in technical and business innovation efforts.

  13. Provides expert systems development advice and leadership to various teams and management personnel within the IT organization.

  14. Weekend and off peak hours implementations are part of the work duties, as well as being part of a rotating 24x7 on-call support team.

  15. Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Job Breakdown:

• 45% - Systems Administration, Monitoring and support

• Up to 10% travel required at times

Knowledge, Skills, & Qualifications:

  1. A four-year computer science, information systems or engineering degree is preferred; or, four (4) years of directly related experience is required.

  2. A minimum of two (2) years of hands-on experience in system design, implementation, and support of a high-available 24/7/365 operating environment is required.

  3. Areas of expertise must include, but are not limited to:

a. Required Experience:

i. Virtualization technologies

ii. Design, integration, management, and maintenance of servers in multiple platforms (Virtualized OS)

iii. Hyper-converged infrastructure technology

  1. Implementation/Configuration

  2. Hardware troubleshooting

  3. Patch management

iv. Managing and securing Microsoft Cloud Offerings and Security Products

v. Certificate Infrastructure

vi. Firewalls

vii. Disaster recovery process development, documentation management, and periodic testing

viii. Orchestration & Automation

  1. Scripting solutions such as Python and Powershell

  2. Orchestrator Runbooks

  3. Other Automation Experience

ix. Capacity planning and monitoring

x. Disk and tape storage, archiving, data replication and de-duplication, backup Hardware/Software infrastructure, and SAN infrastructure

xi. LAN/WAN understanding of networking concepts for troubleshooting and network team interaction

xii. Telecom and data transmission technologies

xiii. TCP/IP and routing protocols

xiv. The OSI model

xv. Advanced experience in routine network/client/server problem determination and resolution in a Linux and Windows environment

b. Desired Experience:

i. General familiarity with ITIL & CIS Controls Frameworks

ii. Vulnerability Management – Assist in patch management and analysis

iii. Database backup and recovery

iv. Firewalls – Ability to utilize monitoring for analysis

v. Knowledge of other virtualization Hypervisor and Hyperconverged hardware

  1. Must have a keen sense of system integration requirements and industry trends, and assist in translating those trends and requirements into project deliverables.

  2. Must be a detail and process oriented, innovative, self-starting, hands-on technology professional that is able to work with minimal supervision.

  3. Use various network/client/server monitoring tools for systems control and problem resolution.

  4. Willingness to perform tasks required to ensure published service level agreements are met.

  5. Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks and projects in a high-pressure environment.

  6. Work requires a flexible schedule 24x7 with duties.

  7. Strong interpersonal skills.
