Actalent Gene Therapy R&D Research Assistant I in Columbus, Ohio
Job Description
We are seeking a motivated individual to provide laboratory support, perform experiments, and collect data on in vitro and in vivo studies to investigate gene therapies for rare diseases. Activities will include the assessment of gene editing, RNA and protein expression, and disease phenotype in animal models of neuromuscular disorders.
Responsibilities
Assist in conducting experiments at the direction of scientists, performing general tasks and routine laboratory functions using a variety of assay formats such as nucleic acid and protein purification, Jess automated Western blot, ddPCR, RT-ddPCR, and ELISA.
Perform general laboratory maintenance and help maintain a clean and safe working environment while ensuring compliance with GCP/GLP guidelines.
Organize and maintain inventories of study-related samples for experiments.
Participate in the implementation of new technologies and laboratory techniques to improve the quality and robustness of sample analysis.
Assist in training new employees on technical procedures as assigned in standard methods, practices, procedures, and equipment operations.
Troubleshoot routine technical challenges and contribute to their resolution.
Maintain compliant laboratory records, consistently and accurately documenting all laboratory activities in accordance with good documentation practices.
Essential Skills
Experience with animal handling, animal science, biology, vivarium, animal research, and cell culture.
Proficiency in PCR, RNA, and cell culture techniques.
Ability to plan and carry out experiments independently with strict adherence to laboratory methods and SOPs.
Strong problem-solving and data analysis skills.
Proficient written and oral communication and presentation skills.
Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot technical issues.
Highly organized and able to work with great precision and attention to detail.
Adherence to safety protocols and knowledge of Good Laboratory Practices.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
B.S. degree in Biochemistry, Immunology, Cell Biology, Molecular Biology, Genetics, or related field.
Experience with statistical and computer productivity software (i.e., Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams, etc.)
Work Environment
This is a lab environment where you will spend most of your day working with animals. Some time will also be spent working at a desk. The facility is a brand new, state-of-the-art environment with a growing startup company in cell/gene therapy manufacturing.
