Salary: $120,000 - $135,000

Position Summary:

Performs highly responsible professional and supervisory work serving as the Director of Vehicle Maintenance for the Infrastructure, Engineering & Maintenance Division. Responsible for directing and overseeing all vehicle maintenance activities for all organization revenue and non-revenue vehicles. Responsible for directing the activities of all maintenance staff contributing to the operational preparedness of buses necessary for meeting COTA's transit service commitments. Works closely with Vehicle Engineering in the development of Standard Operating Procedures, key performance indicators, performance feedback and other processes that are necessary to achieve defined quality service standards.

Performs other duties in alignment with the 2019 - 2024 COTA Strategic Plan and in support of the organization's vision to Move Every Life Forward.

This Position is Responsible For:

  • Directs, oversees and monitors all vehicle maintenance operations and activities to ensure enough buses are available to meet service commitments; develops and implements preventative and predictive maintenance programs that contribute to the safety, cleanliness and reliability of the organization's bus fleet; monitors and evaluates fleet reliability and effectiveness on an on-going basis to improve equipment failures and on-time performance

  • Oversees technical studies to enhance engineering design, vehicle performance and parts longevity ensuring that the organization's vehicles are in accordance with both federal and state safety regulations and industry standards

  • Assumes a leadership role in the development of a maintenance plan and philosophy for the department to improve planning and performance; develops and implements a comprehensive maintenance training program; leads the vehicle maintenance department staff in establishing a process of continuous improvement in maintenance practices while building trust and a high level of communication among employees

  • Identifies the short and long-term vehicle equipment needs of the organization to meet organizationally agreed upon levels and quality of service; establishes goals and standards to improve efficiency and productivity; directs and monitors all capital and operating budget activities of the department

  • Maintains effective labor relations through prudent and equitable contract administration; adjudicates grievances and complaints in a timely, consistent and fair manner in accordance with bargaining agreement provisions

  • Hires, trains, develops and appraises staff effectively, while ensuring the organization meets its EEO responsibilities; assisting in identifying problem areas, participating in local minority organizations, participating in review of complaints alleging discrimination and supporting career counseling for employees; takes corrective action as necessary, on a timely basis, and in accordance with policy

    At Minimum You'll Need:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, automotive, electronics, public administration, business administration, transportation or related fields

  • Ten (10) years of experience in transportation maintenance or related fields, with 7 years of experience in managing a complex maintenance department

  • Managerial experience in a union environment is preferred or an equivalent combination of education and experience

  • ASE certification preferred
