Actalent Controls IOT Engineer in Columbus, Indiana

Controls Engineer

Job Description

In this role, you will prepare new manufacturing processes and support production activities by continuously improving safety, quality, and productivity, and reducing downtime and environmental impact. This company has several different manufacturing processes including laser cutting, press break and hydraulic press forming, manual and robotic welding, paint/powder coat, engine assembly, drive train assembly, and final fork truck assembly. The primary responsibility for the controls group is to support production engineering for all capital projects. This group identifies innovative technologies that can be implemented on the floor. They utilize Omron PLCs, and a full emission SCADA platform, Motoman robotics, multi-communication/controls integration of their robots and servos into their standard cells. The team consists of 10 controls engineers.

The typical work this team supports is tied to capital projects of new manufacturing cells. For example, they have over 50 automated weld cells that they are constantly upgrading or replacing. This candidate will work with the integrator building the cell and be responsible for cradle-to-grave implementation of the controls and electrical integration of the piece of equipment. The work is split 70/30 between traditional controls work and systems-based work, with very limited support for any plant-side controls issues.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree In Engineering

  • Experience with new equipment controls integration

  • 5+ years of PLC Integration (Allen Bradley, Omron, Mitsubishi)

  • Experience with industrial control system design and troubleshooting (PLCs, HMIs, VFDs, and Servos)
