CITY OF COLUMBIA Public Health and Human Services Director in Columbia, Missouri

The City of Columbia, Missouri is seeking a highly qualified Public Health and Human Services executive to lead the Columbia/Boone County Public Health and Human Services Department, a Public Health Accreditation Board (PHAB) accredited department. This opportunity arises because the current director is set to retire in October after more than 25 years of service as the director. Columbia seeks a visionary leader with a robust background in public health and human services management. Salary range: $122,482 - $188,622. Well qualified candidates can expect to be hired at or above the mid-range of $155,552.

The purpose of this job is to direct the operations of the Public Health and Human Services department, including public health policy development and community health planning, to protect and promote health, safety, and well-being of Columbia and Boone County residents.

  • Collaborates with elected and appointed leaders to develop strategic vision for the department; plans, organizes, and directs the budget and capital plans, operations, policy, and activities of the department.

``` - Supervises, manages, and evaluates assigned employees and makes decisions about hiring, discipline and/or termination of employees; prioritizes and assigns work; develops and oversees employee work schedules and approves time away from work; provides and/or facilitates employee training and development; addresses employee concerns and/or problems; counsels and/or disciplines as appropriate; completes employee performance appraisals; determines or makes recommendations regarding new hire salaries and salary changes; and acts as liaison between employees and management.

``` - Serves as public health subject matter expert to the City Manager, City Council, and Boone County Commission. Recommends public health and human services related policies based on evidence-based practices and local needs.

``` - Establishes long-term goals and objectives to align public health and human services programs with citys strategic plan, Live Well Boone County Community Health Improvement Plan, and Principles of Community for diversity, equity, and inclusion. Reviews performance management metrics and quality improvement plans to ensure goals and objectives are met.

``` - Plans, organizes, prioritizes, and directs activities of department to ens re operational effectiveness. Builds an enabling infrastructure that supports employee engagement.
