Focus on the Family Temp Audio Production Specialist 2 in Colorado Springs, Colorado

The Audio Production Specialist II position exists to perform highly complex functions in recording and producing high quality audio for various elements of Focus on the Family. This position requires only general direction and seldom refers unusual or complex problems to supervisor.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Provides expertise during the production editing process and assists with training new staff members

  • Utilizes production skills to perform rough, time, and final editing of broadcast projects to predetermined length using Pro Tools Digital Audio Workstation

  • Mixes music and performs other techniques to improve sound quality (e.g., equalization, compression, matching new and old material seamlessly)

  • Ensures technical quality of broadcast projects

  • Reviews final versions of audio prior to distribution for content, audio quality, and any copyright or legal issues

  • Prepares each audio project for archival purposes for future use

    Daily

  • Performs pre-production functions in preparation for voice track or wraparound sessions, including analyzing the material, editing time and content, and ensuring equalization

  • Responds to broadcast schedule replacements as required while maintaining broadcast quality and meeting distribution deadline

  • Edits the content of each broadcast to ensure the highest degree of content, flow, and global cultural sensitivity and relevancy

  • Ensures that no content is released without confirmation of reliability and all legal issues are settled in collaboration with the Daily Producer

  • Collaborates with Public Policy on Special State Only and C3/C4 versions to ensure law abidance

  • Serves as primary engineer for all recording sessions in the studio, including interviews, wraps, and voice tracks

  • Performs recording studio set-up and microphone placement

  • Performs technical support and engineering for special off-site audio recordings and actualities for various broadcast products

  • Coordinates the set-up, recording and tear down of interview tapings in the Focus on the Family Welcome Center Theater\

  • Edits each Daily Broadcast into several different versions (Commercial/Non-Commercial, Border, and Canada) including special state only versions and separate C3 and C4 versions as needed

  • Delivers final versions of broadcast to Satellite on time for distribution

  • Engineers and edits special projects for The Office of the Chairman as needed

    Audio Journal Editor/Producer:

  • Researches potential topics for inclusion on Audio Journal

  • Creates, records, and produces creative teasers for Audio Journal

  • Serves as primary audio engineer for all recording session for Young Family Audio Journal

  • Loads and prepares audio for Focus on Your Child Audio Journal wraps and voice track recording

  • Composes voice track scripts for host and reporters

  • Composes questions for interviews of expert guests

  • Assists producers in coaching and developing voice talent

  • Edits and mixes audio material for Young Family Audio Journal

  • Coordinates with Producer to edit Audio Journal down to time

  • Records, edits, and distributes CD masters of all Focus on Your Child Audio Journal interviews

  • Assembles 4 versions, designed for different stages of adolescents, of Focus on Your Child Audio Journal f or distribution to Focus on Your Child Members

  • Meets all deadlines to deliver audio program to Producer in both CD and MP3 format

    Weekend Editor/Producer:

  • Researches potential topics for inclusion on Weekend Magazine

  • Creates, records, and produces creative teasers for Weekend Magazine

  • Loads and prepares all audio needed for Weekend Magazine studio recording

  • Composes voice track scripts for host and reporters

  • Composes questions for interviews of expert guests

  • Records and edits Weekend Magazine interviews and voice tracks

  • Assists producers in coaching and developing voice talent

  • Coordinates and records off-site interviews and actualities for Weekend Magazine

  • Coordinates with Briargate Media for all spot assignments within Weekend Magazine

  • Assembles Weekend Magazine to predetermined length

  • Masters CDs of Weekend Magazine for reference

  • Produces special holiday versions of Weekend Magazine

  • Uses Master CD to create 2 versions of Weekend Magazine (Commercial/Non-Commercial and Canada versions)

  • Re-edits the master for a secular version of Weekend Magazine according the boundaries put forth for those specific radio stations

  • Reviews final versions of Weekend Magazine prior to airing for content, audio quality, and any copyright or legal issues

  • Delivers final versions of broadcast to Satellite on time for distribution

    Other Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Performs other duties, including but not limited to duties as assigned, some of which may include the development and creation of a variety of copyrightable works (e.g., print, photography, film, music, visual arts, etc.) for distribution in any and all media and formats (such as television, radio, internet, wireless, DVD, satellite and digital) on a world-wide basis, all of which shall be for the benefit of Focus on the Family.

  • May perform voice work in audio and audio/visual works, as needed, which may include, hosting, interviews, performing a role, etc.

  • Edits and produces other audio projects as needed

  • May write scripts, produce voice tracks (with teasers, offers, and program notes), and/or perform other creative functions

  • May review final version to broadcast prior to airing/release

  • Engineers KYDS Radio recording sessions as needed

  • Performs other duties as assigned

    Managerial Breadth/Scope of Job:

  • May oversee production of short features; i.e., Focus on the Family Minute

    Working Environment/Physical Requirements:

  • Occasional to frequent exposure to noise, dust, fumes, etc.

  • Well developed sense of hearing for entire audio spectrum frequency

    Personal Characteristics:

  • Detail-oriented, thorough, flexible, articulate, logical, decisive, self-motivated, diplomatic, sensitive, considerate

    Knowledge/Experience:

  • Associate’s Degree in Broadcasting, Communications, or equivalent broadcast trade school certification

  • 6 + years experience in a combination of sound engineering, audio editing, and broadcast programming

  • In-depth knowledge of FOF mission, philosophy, values, and objectives

    Pay Range: $26.00 to $30.00/hr
