I, Apartment (aka Apartment Instructor) is an active member of the Rehabilitation team to provide direction and support in the Apartment located in the Possibilities program. QUALIFICATIONS: High school graduate (GED). Experience working with individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities is preferred. CPR/First Aid training or willingness to obtain training. Must have a valid driving record and have the ability to pass internal driving class. OTHER REQUIREMENTS/PREFERENCES It is preferred that the incumbent have the ability to interact and work cooperatively and effectively. The incumbent must be able to respond to special requests and be flexible in regard to job tasks and duties. The incumbent must have good physical stamina/endurance to stand for long periods of time. The incumbent must also demonstrate empathy and concern for individuals with developmental disabilities and have a passion for working to maximize their independence and personal growth. The Apartment Instructor must also conduct self in a professional manner and maintain a professional appearance that enhances the firm's reputation. The incumbent must be able to work effectively as a team member with the rest of the Rehabilitation staff. KEY RESPONSIBILITY AREAS: Daily Living instruction The Apartment Instructor will be responsible to create, implement and instruct daily living skills in the Possibilities Apartment. Activities include, but are not limited to, teaching safety skills in the kitchen, basic cooking and entertaining skills, sewing and learning how to do laundry. The incumbent will assist all clients in their scheduled areas to participate in activities and help them achieve their personal goals. Creating instructional learning areas will include working with assistive technology equipment to enhance independent learning. The Apartment Instructor will be responsible to ensure the apartment is a safe and healthy environment at all ti Creating integration activities The Apartment Instructor will work closely with the Possibilities team to bring in members of the community to assist with the apartment and work with volunteers on certain projects. The incumbent will also create various community activities coinciding with instructional learning in the apartment. Through this process, the incumbent may be requested to transport clients to various events using company vehicles. Possibilities Team Support As a member of the Possibilities Team, the incumbent will participate in staff meetings as directed. The Apartment Instructor will also teach proper work habits, interaction and self-help skills through role modeling and programmatic intervention. The incumbent will also fill in for other positions as needed and perform additional duties as assigned by management. The Apartment Instructor may be requested to assist in the provision of ancillary services to program participants: to include necessary help with toileting, transferring, lifti g and other hygiene concerns; assist program participants with transitioning smoothly into daily programming. Client/Program Tracking and Reporting The Apartment Instructor will assist Possibilities staff with completing any assessments and individualized program plans needed on program participants. In addition, the incumbent will monitor program participant's daily activities and document on the daily log note sheets. Relationship Management The Apartment Instructor will communicate in a timely manner and keep the staff informed of progress, considerations, and pertinent information. The incumbent will deal effectively and calmly with non-routine situations following accepted guidelines and perform other duties as required by management.
