This position is for a technical role in Colorado Springs, CO (100% on site).

Responsibilities will include but not be limited to:

  • Understands the customer’s vision of automated satellite operations to drive towards optimization of how the ground system is utilized

  • Provide plan and status on technical and execution matters related to mission planning, RPO operations, On-Orbit Test, and mission execution to NG Program Office and Customer

  • Provides Space Operations expertise to internal and external parties to ensure spacecraft/payload and ground system health, status, anomaly troubleshooting, and resolution within scope of contracts

  • Ensure the customer understands the current Ops Capability of the system – which vehicles are fully capable, which have reduced capability, and which are currently non-serviceable due to anomalies

  • Serves as a technical liaison between the Ng Program Office and end users to ensure successful execution of mission

  • Provides technical leadership, direction and mentoring to other technical employees in the application of systems engineering principles, tools, and techniques to achieve practical end results

  • Works with management to ensure compliance with standard NG processes and policies

  • Drives process development, continuous improvement, and affordability initiatives

  • Works with end users and Mission Planner Team to develop RPO Tactics, Techniques and Procedures

  • Provides on-call support to rendezvous and proximity operations (RPO) missions and the resolution of system issues and anomalies

*This position may require occasional shift work including swing or night shift, and/or 12-hr shifts including holidays and/or weekends

Candidate must be self-motivated, able to work in a dynamic team environment, and work under general direction while independently determining and developing approaches to solutions.

This position can be filled as a Sr. Staff Engineer, Systems, (Level 6) depending on experience and qualifications.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or STEM related field

  • 14+ years of relevant experience

  • An active or current TS/SCI clearance is required at time of application/start. (TS clearance with an investigation or CV date within 5 years is needed.)

  • U.S. citizen

  • Candidate must have good communication skills, strong interpersonal skills, and good oral and written presentation skills

  • Demonstrated experience in satellite operations engineering disciplines to include orbital mechanics, attitude control, power management, thermal control, propulsion, command and data handling, flight and ground software, and anomaly determination and resolution

  • Experience with RPO mission planning and execution

  • Demonstrated ability to formally present technical solutions to senior leadership teams

  • Be able to make decisions under high pressure environments and maintain composure in stressful situations

  • Ability to troubleshoot and correct problems in a dynamic environment

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience directly managing or leading large engineering teams

  • Experience as technical lead, Integrated Product Team Lead, or other leadership role in a program office or business function with demonstrated team building, organizational, and interpersonal skills

  • Proficiency with one or more of the following programming languages/tools: MATLAB, Python, SIMULINK, Fortran, Java, C/ C++ Experience with fleet management of constellations of satellites

  • Familiar with a variety of astrodynamics tools (FreeFlyer, System Tool Kit (STK), NASA General Mission Analysis Tool (GMAT), Orbit Determination Toolbox (ODTBX))

  • Prior aerospace-related work experience for a U.S Government Agency or Contractor

Salary Range: $166,000 - $229,000

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
