Colorado Springs Pathology Associates Medical Transcriptionist - PATHOLOGY in Colorado Springs, Colorado

Job Summary and Responsibilities: Upload outside reports, accession and transcribe clinical information into our pathology software system and set up cases with appropriate CPT codes for sign out after pathologist review. Transcribe gross descriptions and translate abbreviations into fully understandable form. Edit as necessary and return reports in electronic form to the pathologist.

Required Competencies: Medical terminology: Familiarity with the meaning of medical terms and abbreviations, of medical prescriptions and various medical specialties and when to use it correctly. Pathology terminology is unique and staff will be trained as well on pathology terminology. Archive healthcare users' records: Knowledge of properly storage of the health records of healthcare users, including test results and case notes so that they are easily retrieved when required. Edit dictated medical texts: Experience with revise and edit dictated texts used for medical records purposes is preferred. Database: Familiarity with the classification of databases, that includes their purpose, characteristics, terminology, models and use such as XML databases, document-oriented databases and full text databases. Maintain healthcare user data confidentiality: Knowledge of comply with and maintain the confidentiality of healthcare users illness and treatment information. Comply with all HIPAA regulations and Company policy. Use electronic health records management system: Experience with and be able to use specific software for the management of health care records, following appropriate codes of practice. Transcribe medical data: Familiarity with audio recordings of the healthcare professional, capture the information and format into appropriate file formats. Health records management: Knowledge of the procedures and importance of record keeping in a healthcare system or physician practice, the information systems used to keep and process records and how to achieve maximum accuracy of records. Comply with legislation related to health care: Familiarity with regional and national legislation that is relevant to one s work and apply it in practice. Follow given instructions: Ability to follow instructions to achieve goals and meet deadlines. Apply organizational techniques: Experience with employing a set of organizational techniques and procedures which facilitate the achievement of set goals as outlined by management. Ability to use these resources efficiently and sustainably; and show flexibility when required. Manage digital archives: Knowledge of creation and maintenance of computer archives and databases, incorporating latest developments in electronic information storage technology. Human anatomy: The dynamic relationship of human structure and function and the musculoskeletal, cardiovascular, respiratory, digestive, endocrine, urinary, reproductive, integumentary and nervous systems; normal and altered anatomy and physiology throughout the human lifespan. Medical informatics: The processes and tools used for the analysis and dissemination of medical data through computerized systems. Time Management: Managing one's own time and prioritizing activities based on importance of the activity. Example Activities: Return dictated reports in printed or electronic form for physician's review, signature, and corrections and for inclusion in patients' medical record Produce medical reports, correspondence, records, patient-care information, statistics, medical research, and administrative material. Identify mistakes in reports and check with doctors to obtain the correct information. Review and edit transcribed reports or dictated material for spelling, grammar, clarity, consistency, and proper medical terminology. Transcribe dictation for a variety of medical reports, such as patient histories, physical examinations, emergency room visits, operations, chart reviews, consultation, or discharge summaries. Distinguish between homonyms and recognize inconsistencies and mistakes in medical terms, referring to dictionaries, drug references, and other sources on anatomy, physiology, and medicine.
