Fiber Inspector I
Colorado Springs Utilities' Network Transport Services team is hiring a Fiber Optic Inspector I to perform final inspections to ensure the satisfactory restoration of construction site and easements. This job will oversee and inspect fiber network infrastructure installation, repair, replacement, and splicing performed by internal and external crews to ensure work meets system design, standards, regulations, and code. You will have the opportunity to work with a team of fiber network professionals through installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing components of our fiber-optic network.
Key Areas of Focus:
Monitors projects and construction progress and conducts on-site inspections
Inspects and reviews installed fiber infrastructure to ensure compliance with standard specifications, regulations, safety, and appropriate construction practices
Implements changes authorized by Fiber Inspector II and documents appropriate changes to designs or construction
Prepares and maintains project / construction reports, activity reports, and logs; prepares system condition assessments and schematics
Reviews technical documents and designs for accuracy
Coordinates with internal and external entities to facilitate construction activities
Documents and redlines as-builts / record drawings, plat cards, field measurements, work orders
Pulls, manages, and closes permits
Assists in developing and maintaining construction and design standards
Ensures construction materials meet specifications
Participates in pre-construction and construction progress meetings
Coordinates with Pikes Peak Regional Building Department to ensure inspections are conducted and approved
Maintains inspection equipment
Communicates and organizes work to accommodate multiple work groups
Builds and fosters relationships with contractors and Utility customers
Creates, writes, edits, reviews, and approves documents and reports
Please note that working conditions and essential functions of performing this job include:
This position requires possession of a valid, unrestricted driver's license
• Heavy lifting and moving of materials and equipment up to 80 pounds
• Climbing utility power poles using industry-standard climbing gear
• Climbing and standing on extension ladders up to 28 feet for long periods of time
• Performing work in confined spaces (e.g., bucket trucks) and in trenches
• Exposure to inclement weather conditions

Who You Are:
Experience with fiber infrastructure, and a working knowledge of fiber optic networks
Experience in troubleshooting and configuring FTTx/GPON networks is valued
Experience working with fiber enclosures, handling cables within enclosures, pre/post OTDR testing, and Light Source and Power Meter testing on Multimode and Single Mode fiber
Knowledge of approved practices, procedures, tools, codes, and materials used when handling fiber
Outside plant fiber optic cable blowing/placement and procedures
Ability to acquire one of the following within six months of hire:
BICSI - Installer 2 and Optical Fiber Certifications
Fiber Optic Association – CFOT, CFOS/O, CFOS/T, CFOS/S, and CFOS/T Certifications
ETA International – FOI and FOT-OSP Certifications
