Job Summary
The Quality Team is looking for an experienced Quality Engineer to join our team. This position will be responsible to lead the quality engineering functions for one automotive business unit. Activities are to ensure Customer requirements are understood and fulfilled, provide guidance to SQE in supplier development, determine product inspection plans including supplier source inspection prior to product launch. Then monitor customer performance, drive internal process performance reviews, manage corrective & preventive quality actions, and perform project management activities related to new product launches and existing product platforms. This opening will work closely with the supplier design engineers, purchasing, supply chain management and quality leadership.
This is a hybrid role, in the office Monday through Thursday with the ability to work from home on Friday.
Primary Duties
Utilize the IATF 16949 standard and Customer specific requirements to develop the business unit’s quality system processes
Collaborate with supplier quality engineers to identify and improve quality systems and identify process improvement opportunities such as implementation of statistical process control, waste reduction, mentor suppliers on process validation, etc.
Work with SDEs to implement effective process controls, including supplier process 8D (corrective actions, preventive actions)
Ensure compliance in all 18 elements of new Production Part Approval Process in timely manner
Ensure quality issues for new and existing products are addressed proactively using Advanced Quality Planning tools including FMEA, Control plans, Process Flow Charts, Statistical Process Capability and Design of Experiments
Create and implement plans for incoming inspection and source inspection
Monitor customer warranty portals and take appropriate action on any non-conforming product
Educate contributors on quality system requirements, as well as problem solving and continuous improvement methodologies and other industry best practices
Drive and facilitate continual improvement efforts and provide Quality System support for internal operations such as receiving inspection, first article inspections, and control of nonconforming products
Monitor OE Customer feedback systems daily
Support local site quality and operations
Maintain a Customer warranty rate of <5000 ppm (0.5%)
Respond to Customer quality requests within QMS defined time requirements
Qualifications
Experience working with IATF 16949 and ISO9001 quality management systems
Demonstrated ability to work on cross–functional teams and ability to lead projects in a flexible and fast-paced work environment
In depth knowledge of various manufacturing processes including but not limited to: machined, casted & molded components, as well as testing of these materials & products
Working knowledge of product qualification testing, inspection tools & equipment, supplier quality activities
Working knowledge of root cause analysis techniques: 8D, 3x5Y, Shainin, DFSS, DMAIC
Working knowledge of APQP processes: DFMEA, PFMEA, Control Plans, and PPAP
In depth knowledge of PCB and electronic assemblies, ESD handling, and packaging a plus
Certification or working knowledge of JSTD-001, IPC-A-610 & IPC-A-600 a plus
Demonstrated excellent written and oral communication skills
Demonstrated effective project management skills
Experience in peer review of common engineering documents (drawings, specifications, standards, procedures)
Computer skills in Microsoft Office Suite; focus on Excel, PowerPoint, and Word
Physical Requirement: Capability to lift 20 pounds
Working Conditions: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to reach, swivel, carry items from one building to another, and speak and actively listen. Noise level is usually moderate
Education / Experience
BS degree in engineering discipline; minimum 10 years’ experience working on product/process projects
Minimum 5 years’ experience in root cause analysis/problem solving
Experience within manufacturing environments; good understanding of manufacturing processes
Current certification, or pursuit of, an ASQ certification or equivalent
