Description

The Department of Global Languages and Cultures, in the College of Arts and Sciences at Texas A&M University, invites applications for one (1) full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Global Studies, with the 9-months appointment beginning in the Fall semester of 2025. The B.A. degree in Global Studies emphasizes humanities-based critical thinking and understanding of global macro-processes, making connections across diverse fields such as climate and environmental change, urban and visual studies, arts, literatures, languages and virtual and A.I. technology, medicine, and scientific innovation. The Department of Global Languages and Cultures houses undergraduate B.A. degrees in Modern Languages (with concentrations in French, German, and Russian), Spanish, Global Studies, and Classics; the University Studies B.A. and B.S. degrees in Race, Gender, and Ethnicity; minors in Arabic, Chinese, and Japanese; interdisciplinary programs in Africana Studies, Jewish Studies, Asian Studies, and Religious Studies; and graduate (MA and PhD) programs in Hispanic Studies. The Department is one of 18 in the College of Arts and Sciences, encompassing more than 130 areas of study. The successful candidate will be expected to maintain a research profile (as evidenced in publications, conference presentations, or research grants) commensurate with the expectations of an R1 institution; contribute to program development in the area of Global Studies; teach culture and language courses at all levels; and participate in service activity at the Department, College, or University level. The teaching load is two (2) courses per semester, with a teaching reduction in the first year of the appointment. Commitment to developing new courses in Global Studies and teaching existing Global Studies and advanced language courses while maintaining a high-level research program is essential. The position offers opportunities to lead language-immersion Study Abroad experiences.

Qualifications

A Ph.D. in a field appropriate to Global Studies as defined above is required. Applicants should demonstrate evidence of a strong research program, a record of successful independent teaching, and be credentialed to teach culture and language courses at all undergraduate levels in at least one of the language programs in the Department. Intersection with the Department’s interdisciplinary programs in Africana Studies, Jewish Studies, Asian Studies, and Religious Studies is desirable.
