Job Description
Who we want
The Research Assistant will support ongoing research projects with The College of Education and Human Development (CEHD) that investigate the neural mechanisms underlying human motor control and learning. This position will assist in the design and execution of experiments, data collection, and analysis, primarily working with human subjects.
Responsibilities
Conducting Experiments:
Assist in the design, plan, coordinate and execution of experiments using standard techniques of routine research related to motor neuroscience
Set up and conduct experiments related to motor neuroscience
Ensures high-quality research results through integrity, quality control, and protocol compliance
Troubleshoot routine lab problems, consulting available scientific literature when necessary
Learns and implements new lab protocols as needed and assist with method development
Data Collection:
Accurately collect, process, and keep detailed records of data from experiments
Assist in training graduate and undergraduate researchers on data collection and processing
Evaluate, select, and apply standard techniques of routine research
Creates and maintains project specific inventories for various types of sample data
Facilitates data entry and management by other lab members performing lab work
Data Analysis:
Analyze collected data using statistical software and techniques
Evaluates and summarizes results to include in scientific publications, presentations, and/or manuscripts
Administrative:
Assist with lab organization, protocol management, and communicates with vendors
Manage IRB protocol, purchase essential supplies, schedule lab meetings/events
Respond to emails, answer phone calls, make copies, conduct phone screenings for participant recruitment
Assists in preparing and writing proposals to funding agencies
Communicates with lab manager and other laboratory staff on a daily basis to ensure successful completion of laboratory research, compliance with protocols, and selection of best troubleshooting approaches
Produces written laboratory protocols and standard operating procedures as needed and keep them updated to ensure uniformity of lab work

Salary: Compensation will be commensurate to selected hire’s experience

Required Education and Experience:
- A bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as Kinesiology, Neuroscience, Psychology, Biomedical Engineering, Computer Science or a closely related discipline
Preferred Qualifications
Master's degree
Prior experience working in a neuroscience or motor control laboratory
Experience in designing experiments, collecting data, and analyzing results
Proficiency with statistical software like SPSS or MATLAB
Skills in troubleshooting experimental designs or technical issues within the lab setting
Advanced skills in data analysis and modeling software beyond the basics
