Job Description
Job Responsibilities
Conduct food chemistry experiments and food composition and metabolic analysis of biological collections by LC-MC and GC-MS.
Co-author and publish manuscripts in peer-reviewed journals, prepare scientific reports, and present scientific data at local and national conferences.
Support the PI in the design, plan, conduct, and coordination of experiments in suppport of various research projects.
Maintain detailed records of data including master data spreadsheets and research protocols.
Monitor project budgets.
Manage and lead all current and pending laboratory research as well as coordinate on human clinical trials including IRB approval, recruitment, enrollment, scheduling, data analysis, and data security in a BSL2 laboratory.
Create sample collection and data analysis protocols.
Manage a food chemistry laboratory, supervise research undergraduate and graduate students, oversee laboratory supply and equipment purchases and assist in equipment maintenance.
Prepare and lead annual laboratory audits required by TAMU EHS and IBS committees.
Interview, hire, and supervise all student worker lab assistants.
Conduct lab safety and biohazard training for all research nurses and undergraduate and graduate students
Organize and lead journal club and lab meetings.
Other duties as required.
Required Education.
- PhD or related degree in food science, food engineering, or related
Preferred Skills, Knowledge or Abilities
Previous experience with metabolomics of phytochemicals, biological mass spectroscopy, cell culture in the field of human health, fecal/bacterial fermentations, phytochemical extractions, general food processing unit operations, food drying and concentration techniques, use of enzymes in food processing operations
Experience in the area of human clinical trials or work in areas of health benefits of plant-based foods is a preference.
Required knowledge, skills, abilities:
- Ability to interact and work effectively as a team member. Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others. Good communication and computer skills.
